Whatever common tongue, from history till now, it has been
naturally formed by the community and not based on a forced-upon
basis.
Example, in olden Singapore,
people who wanted to communicate with each other
chose Malay or Bazaar Malay as the lingua franca. Other than
that, they still speak their mother tongue at home and choose
whatever school they want to go to and learn the language in
school. (eg. learn Hokkien in school, learn
Cantonese in school, etc)
Why should modern Singapore force upon a language upon us as
compulsory (eg. Mandarin), worse, why does it
"brand" this lousy quality stuff as our
Mother Tongue,
for your information, this fake Mother Tongue is
not spoken by my parents at birth nor the many hundred thousands
parents out there.
For tanjiak, we should pick up whatever we want to pick
up, the government
should not lie to us something that is not
true.
Losing one's true mother tongue (not mandarin) will be the
greatest regret when one's grow older, much much older. Don't be
surprised.
