Hi all,
Just got my license slightly over 2wks back. Am curious to find out if there's any place offering defensive driving courses and what are the prices like? I read in some magazine quite sometime back that BMW offers such a course. Any other places offer them?

Buy a BMW lor, then you can go for their course for $500.

You need to own a BMW? if not wrong, some courses allow you to use the centre’s cars

Drive for at least 6 mths to a year before taking any Defensive Driving or Advance Driving course. You must be driving, not just holding a licence.
This is so that you experience first hand the different driving situations.
Then only you can fully understand what is taught in the course, and also contribute your own experiences.

In the meantime drive carefully, and be observant.

You’ll be wasting money of you go for the course now… There are still so much to learn on the roads! Just get used to driving first… make sure you so damn used to driving before you attend such courses… You will benefit more from it… And dont make the people over there laugh because P-platers still have lots more to learn for usual, daily, normal road driving….

Okayz, thanks. Because quite frankly I’m quite sick and tired of being tailed endlessly by Taxis and the occasional speed freak whom weaves in and out of lanes damn close to where I’m driving.

All I can say is that driving in SG requires balls… Hehe… Its more of the “if you’re not going to go, then I am” mentality over here… Thats y you have to be alert as well… Make sure you’re aware of what other cars are doing too…

Oh this is very common scene on Singapore roads... Just get used to it... i think it happens even more to P-plate drivers... some people tend to hate p-plate cars....

Just avoid the extreme right lane if you think you wont be going fast... last time, i will purposely slow down to disturb tailgaters... usually i will get angry stares... but now i grew out of it liao... if i see a tailgater behind me, i change lane.... however, if im not on the extreme right lane and im already going moderately fast, but there's still a tailgater, i wont give a damn about him... just drive as per normal... he will overtake soon....

My dad and uncle tell me that I should slow down or maintain my speed. I did that, the friggin cabby horn me man.Crap…super irritated by it. As my dad drives a van, I can’t go over 70 so nothing much I can do and I never ever get into lane 1 unless I’m driving my uncle’s Altis.

As long as you not in the fastes lane on the expressway, you can travel at 70km/h on a van. but normally 60-70 will travel at lane 1.

They tailgate u?? so ez... from 5 gear, drop to 2nd gear and use fast engine brake. Then get ready for impact. And there you have it... a brand new rear bumper. Laughing

On small roads should be ok.
But on expressway, try to know the speed on each lane.
Lane 1: 70 and below
Lane 2: 70-80
Lane 3: 90 and above.

But van normally can go to 80 wat... Rolling Eyes

Actually the lane on the right is Lane 1 Razz

By right lane 1 is overtaking lane

But this being Singapore, people tend to hog lane 1

If you're still newbie (like me Razz ), i recommend you drive on lane 2 and use lane 1 to overtake. Let those people who are rushing to hades taking lane 1.

I often travel on Lane 2/ Lane 3 only, unless I'm like filtering to the exit. Never tried Lane 1 yet. Today 2nd time tried my Uncle's Altis, it seems that the steering and the accelerator are all damn light, very smooth. When I step the accelerator just by abit, the car surges forward. Any tips on how to control Automatic cars?

Oh also I realised this, as my dad drives a Renault Kangoo, signal switch is on the left, but for Altis on the right. haha, damn comical, cuz when hit the wrong switch, the wipers come on.DAMN! Just curious, are all European/Continental cars signal switch on the left?

If i'm correct,the first time your caught you are issued a warning.Second time i think they revoke your license?

hmm i drove the same with or without my p plate and anyway i was offered the defensive driving course but i can’t go cos i’m under 21. seeing as to how u’re 1987 too i presume, u won’t be able to go for any of these courses until u’re 21 too.
