Perhaps, but even so, placing the article here does not help at
all. It just helps to spread a rather bad image of SIM
students.
As 'flippant' as you may perceive some of the remarks to be, you
have to admit that there is a grain of truth to them. As was
pointed out, refreshments are a privilege and not a right, and so,
it should never be treated as the latter.
Privileges cannot (and should not) be dished out so freely and
without question. Just as is the case with the Malaysians - they're
so used to buying subsidized fuel that they treat it as a right....
and when they realize that it's actually a privilege that can be
retracted, they make a huge amount of noise when it actually is
retracted.
And of course, we all look upon them with bemusement, for we
never really had the privilege of subsidized fuel.
The same logic goes here. People in other unis never (or hardly
ever) did get this sort of privilege. Yours truly included. So of
course every else would look at this with bemusement when some SIM
student openly makes noise about the retracting of refreshments as
though some sacred rights are being curtailed.....
hmm i might have to disagree there.
it's a privilege, IF the cost of the refreshments are
covered by sim, and we had not contributed a single cent. that way,
they had every right to take back their privilege (without saying
why, but for good practice, it's always good to be accountable and
have a certain form of transparency, agree?).
but like someone mentioned (dunno here, or stomp), that there is
no free lunch in this world, the cost of the refreshment had to be
covered by someone, and it's certainly not going to be covered by
sim, since it's a business, and that would be a liability.
so i dare say that the cost of the refreshment have been
calculated and included as part of the school fees. so if we have
contributed to the refreshment fund, we of course, deserve to know
why it was discontinued. and if we contributed to the refreshment
fund, and it was discontinued, means there's spare cash hanging
around, and what does sim plan to do with the spare cash?
like i said. i only wanted to know, why?
And of course, we all look upon them with bemusement, for we
never really had the privilege of subsidized fuel.
and that's why, it's not wise to give flippant remarks when we
don't take into consideration why they are feeling that way, when
we don't suffer along with them. talk is cheap.
