After seeing so much new information and angles on this case, I
think there is definitely good grounds to counter-sue ODEX, and
perhaps even the Government to take a case against ODEX.
It will definitely be a sight to behold that "Sing's" quick
"get-rich scheme" turn on him and have people sue him into
bankruptcy. The article on Today also highlighted an important
thing. That they have not been totally truthful in what they claim.
They claim that they have not recovered more than 20% of what they
have spent on investigations, yet its discovered that their tracing
fees are damn low! $12 a month for up to 100 files! WTH?
I think by now, everyone can see that ODEX is not acting in the
interest of its Copyright owners when they began this saga. And
from the lack of transparency with regards to the money, it leads
me to suspect that this is truly a devious scheme to manipulating
the law for profit.
The law can be used to seek redress and compensation, but to use it
for profit is just questionable. Looking at the number of letters
they were intending to send out, the amount they demand in
"compensation, " I don't think it is likely that they can disprove
the suggestion that they would have PROFITED out of it. (That is,
bearing in mind that they are the exclusive licensee of only ONE
anime.)
