Since he has already flunked 3 modules, i don't think flunking another 1 makes any difference to him. He must be damn rich to keep flunking. Anyway, this tells a lot about his attitude. So, why help him when he doesn't help himself.

Just put his name down in your final report or whatever, as a formality. BUT tell your tutor he did not contribute anything to the project. I don't see this as backstabbing since in the beginnng, he has already planned to live off you and your other grp mates.

The thing is that he repeated and he still do not repent so whats the point of helping him if he don't himself? I feel best is what others said, have a guy-to-guy talk and then make the your conclusion. If I were you, unless the other person has got a valid reason, a reason which is understandable or it will include him at all. Sad

The project has ended. There is no right or wrong to the recourse you are going to bestow him.

The question is, are you a person who will step on a cockroach which has crossed your path , or will you let it go ?

Universities projects are just a mini mock-up of what you will face in the working world.

Your priority is to figure out what should have been the right action to take in the event the same thing happens again.

Prior to the start of the project, did anyone set down rules and acceptable performance/behavior ?

Did anyone conveyed their unhappiness to the freeloader during the project ?
Did anyone try to fix it in the early stages, instead of whining about it at the end ?

Next time when you become a manager. Will you simply sack some one who is slacking in performance at the end of the year? Knowing he has a family to feed ? Or that he has medical needs which has to be paid for with this income ?
Shouldn't you have given him a warning letter and let him know of his unsatisfactory performance ? Before you cut his life line ?

There are more human issues other than your project scores.

wat jojobeach stated is true. ur lecturer or ur management next time u work in may not buy ur excuse becos of one individual who is not contribute. they will rather see u as a failure who cannot lead ur team member to perform n view u as less interaction between ur team.

a real team share burden among themselves instead of finger pointings at one another when failure occurs. be glad there is a black sheep in ur team as u will expect to encounter them next time u step into working society.

what u should learn is how to turn him to contribute maybe a little for the team to make him feel important in his role as team member rather than thinking ways of kicking him off.

Thanks for the advice. I must first said i do not want and does not want anything to do with him. I mean i have the authority to strike him off as i am the group leader and my tutor learned about his behaviour through the remaining 2 girls and the tutor said i had the power to strike him off.

I am a normal guy i do not have a big heart just a normal heart, the things he did is simply childish, things like he will talk and talk about ideas while never even do any research. We were each assigned individual tasks to perform. Example he will do half of the task and i do the other half and when the deadline is nearing, i will call and sms him whether had he completed his part. He will never reply and finally when i get to meet him, he will act ignorant and pretend that he cannot do it and seriously i curse him so nights when i have to cover his backside by doing his part.

The last straw comes when i combine the whole project and i email him a copy of the whole thing, and during the final stage of discussion where the whole group gathers. He will rave stupid questions like "How come it does not have this part or that theory etc". Then i will say its in page this and page that, apparently he does not even care to read the whole thing and yet still have the cheek to critize our hard work. Anyway the other 2 girls just call me and we decided to strike him off.

I mean the 3 of us agree if that joker even had a single ounce of proof that he did put in hard work to do any research we will let him be our group but seriously that guy is a joke

well... be glad u still have 2 others who can contribute to the project. there r other misfortunate dat only project leader is working alone while the rest or majority of team-members r freeriders.

if u r thinking of writing him off since u got support of the rest of the members n ur lecturer, go ahead. but u will make urself an enemy.

n pray dat next time this guy will not be ur superior n ur team-member next time u step into working society.

Yes, I totally understand your anguish.
I've been through it myself.

Projects.... what I truly learned from it was not the subject matter, but more the human handling aspects.

You will, after all this is done and over with, look back and laugh at it.

Right now, do what you deem is most fitting. You will realize sooner or later, this is but a small matter in the overall scheme of your life.

i'm in a similiar position...just that mine is in the real working world.

Got a new colleague who joined some time in Aug.

All these while, he's either glued to internet surfing or shows a black/disinterested face whenever i try to teach him stuff or get him to perform some task (we're out-stationed, so no one around to supervise us)

I cant stand it anymore and emailed my bosses about this.

There are always these type of creeps in working life. They destroy the morale of the team, they are disruptive, unproductive, a waste of time and makes everybody upset. Show no mercy, get rid of them. I m speaking from several experiences in dealing with this type of scum bags.

one guy will always call us on fri nite with some sob story abt why he could not do his part for the weekly sat presentations. every week he will rotate n call one team member and dump it onto him/her. when he called me, i told him 'too bad.' and hung up the fone. U get pple like that in NIE even....

Back to the topic: I think you better boot him out as a real-life example. If he goes on with this behaviour when working, tell ya that the boss will fire him.
