Exactly. It's either teach the shit in BMT or teach after. My beef is even though BMT was shortened one week, it has been turned into a hollow shell. The 9 weeks are almost wasted and can be better spent learning something useful.

I would refer to teach it in BMT so every soldier has it.

Ahem... unlike some zho bo lan Bullshitman who ran off, we're signed on till 55/60. Next thing you'll know, he'll want reservist to be one hour a year. Hell, even in reservist, we're still learning new stuff, I only got to call in airstrike, use unmanned ground sensors, in my 5th high key. Can you imagine how much more we have to learn in reservist if they didn't fit it into the 2.5 years?

I would refer to teach it in BMT so every soldier has it.

BMT is for *basic* military training, for guys to learn which end of the rifle is the more dangerous end, to learn how not to shoot themselves in the face/foot. There are other things BMT teaches, but that's probably the most important.

That IMO, one of the real values of NS as a deterrent force. Any potential occupier better be prepared to enter a country where every (well, almost) Singaporean male over the age of 18 can aim in the correct direction and shoot a rifle/pistol. Whether they'll actually hit anything is secondary. Because having so many men trained is enough to give occupiers pause. Anyone on the street is a potential threat.

And I totally agree with meander, the skill of the soldier is almost irrevelant considering that the terrain in Singapore is so closed, just firing a mag down an enemy filled corridor is almost sure to hit something. It’s also why our PDFs use shotguns.

In forrested areas though, training starts to show, so allocation of forces would probably be more like BMTs and PDFs for home defence while the NSF and NSmen push into enemy territory.

PDF uses shotguns? I thought those guys are issued any old weapons available, I hardly think specialized weapons are bought for them. (M-16s- the rare occasion when this is a good thing). About 3 years back saw this Local Security Company concept in an issue of Army News. They gather some surplus guys from reservist battalions together in a company and train them during ICT. PDF is the HQ responsible for POI, this sounds like the kind of forces available to them in war.

First I've heard about the shotgun- what model are they issued?

the japanese army had attacked spore once but since then their imperial japanese army has been disarmed and no longer exist.

think $$$$ to defence should be channeled to building a better mrt system or bus system preventin injuries and further damage.dun need so many comandos or pilots now.....they mave modern technologies and regular sign on soldiers now to do these dangerous job .

2 PDF is at Clementi or Maju, which is where 6, 8 and 9 SIR (POI battalions) are stationed. 6 and 9 SIR do POI for civilian installations, so those recruits would probably be from there. 8 SIR is the new HQ to supply RP to SAF camps.

These 3 battalions are under 2 PDF. I realise I gave the wrong impression when I said 2 PDF troops would all be reservists.

Must be so fun to do guard duty for 2 years, get lumped together with the castoffs from local security companies, under a HQ whose name might as well be "Volkssturm". I do wonder if 8 and 9 were newly formed to take in all the PES downgraders. After all, it was not long ago that they reclassified PES C1 as PES B2.

And why is there no 7 SIR? The historical 7 and 8 SIR were converted into 1 and 2 GDS when Guards were formed. Anyone know why the 8 SIR name was reused but 7 was not?

korean war is on.south korean ns is only 1 year 9 months in the army.reservist as told to me by korea engineer who was holidaying here in oz for 1 year is only 7 days in a year.or was that 4 days in a year high key n low key.death toll in south korean war till to date is 400,000 deaths .

Israeli ns is only 2 years 6 mths in the army.reservist as told to me by israeli over internet didnt care much about ippt. .death toll in arab- israel war till to date is more than 74,000 deaths.

singapore was attacked by foreign talents.ns is 2 years.Death toll in bedok reservoir is less than 5 due to sheer stupidity.
