And don’t get me started on Aunties washing your plates for you. NS is supposed to be a rite of passage when Singaporean boys grow up to be men. “Auntie,can wash plate for me?” simply does NOT jive with this image. Yes, you may say the time may be better spent elsewhere, but where’s the learning of responsibility? Of caring for your own stuff like your mess tray and utensils, the MOST basic items? Or is this a carry over of “Mommy wash my plates?” or “Maid, wash this for me?” Either way, washing your own basic stuff is NOT time wasted, it teaches you something important.

It’s a demonstrator project, still pre-prototype stage, and it’s parent weighs 10kg, hard to fit something that heavy onto a helmet.

Hitman, my NS courses were Assault Boat, Terminal Air Guidance, Vehicle training, Comms training, Medical course, Combat survival, Escape and evasion, Vehicle identificaton, demolitions, engineering, rappeling, basic military structure (NATO and Warsaw Pact) AND my specialization which I won’t divulge here. You try to fit that all into 4 months and find the practice time to get familiar with it too AND add a physical fitness program to it too. I’m betting it’s not going to happen.

And this is the short list, I’m sure I forgot some courses. Like Chemical Defence…

Uncle, that’s like holding a bag of rice. You go try it, then come tell us if it’s workable. And you need it helmet mounted, unless you want to be holding it instead of your rifle in a hostile zone. I suppose you can use it as a club if the enemy gets too close, though I bet you’ll be full of 5.56 holes by that time.

Seriously no imagination and predictive ability. I’d love an op-force like you, they’ll all be holding extra heavy detectors and not rifles while people gun you down with simple P227s.

And just because you sign on doesn’t make you a CDO or pilot, many regulars end up in sai kang infantry units to hold hands of crap soldiers like Hitman. Which makes him a drain on resources.

And I’d love to see the Boy Scout unit that camped for weeks in monsoon conditions. They were also 8 feet tall and can pluck trees out with one hand right?

For a yardstick comparison, the whole US army only numbers half a million active combat troops, the Russians 1.03, the Chinese about 2.2M in total. Where does anyone hit one hundred million?

And against even 2.2M, a serious conscription of Singaporean personel might be able to scratch up a force within shouting distance of it, so it’s not totally hopeless. Unlike Hitman.

what about guadalcanal?thats not an accurate model in the technology to troop quantity.lets take the sino japanese war...the level of chinese to jap weapons tech were on par .....chinese had more troops than japs....yet they fell???how come??maybe the chinese had too little advanced weapons of its days like planes and ships .depending on its circumstances the number of people u have in sg might be insufficient to fight with any of its neighbours.currently u may think a million soldiers is what the max amount of soldiers in x country has.when war comes that million soldier may rise suddenly to 10 million.and even if u handed a rilfle to foreign workers to fight against invading country and think your sheer numbers in country is superior.....then be warned that the enemy could arm teenagers with weapons n give them a uniform to wear...so your"sheer "numbers is still a flawed number as compared to invading country.technology will solve the deficiencies of sheer numbers,so what u see in the statistics of x country is only good at that time u read it.u need practical and intelligent people to know what im talking about.

your statistics on the amount of russian soldiers and american soldiers are warped.what about the soldiers who died in ww2?was it 100 million dead soldiers??or was it 50 million dead soldiers?soldiers can be drafted in suddenly so 1 mil in a certain army can be 3 million as seen in ww2 and before ww2.

It depends on unit.

Mine had FTs to clean up everyday for us including toilets, and on normal days, plates and utensils not washed by our own, but by a specialised person.

We have lots of money, we can buy any weapons we need, but to be effective we need to train the man to use them. Doom to us when we have to fight a war with money only, pay for mercensaries, and use technologies for the soldiers who can't run or wheelchaired bound. This kind of money is no investment.

u have $$$$$$ and can buy any weapon???thats what the japanese and german said in ww2 !they even had slave labour to make weapons.they had trainings too.they still lost.its how practical they intend to think and have effective use of what they are given is all that matters in a war.since your technology in war is par with rest of countries and really dont see much difference..its not like they are using spears but have the same weapon that shoots same amount of rounds per minute as what any rifle is able to do.thats where u nshouldnt depend on your common weapon with technology not much diffeerrnt to that 30 years ago.

no one in ns has ever failed to run or pass bmt in 3 or 4 mths.if 90% pass still ok!how many u know failed bmt and never passed out in 3 or 4 mths?

the other remaining time being sent to units could simply be a waste of time.

the american army pays full time soldiers from all races and use technologies for their soldiers to prevent soldiers from getting killed and in wheelchairs.

the $$$$ would be well invested to prevent casualties ,get more professional career soldiers as regulars and improve firepower.

For those curious, you recourse in the next batch, though one 1st Sgt I knew recoursed a year later, regular, had other training he had to take 1st.

sg, I totally agree with you. Throw a Skyblade’s controls to Hitman, and he’ll probably try to use it as a club, you need to train to be able to use weapons effectively, what BullsHitman really wants is to bitch about NS and skive. Our stuff really isn’t that far from top end high tech, in some cases even exceeds US equipment, but all the tools in the world won’t help without proper training, which needs more than a cheap 4 months.

Yeah, I do think they should toughen up BMT too, but that’s a different topic, no matter how tough BMT, it cannot substitute for more advanced training, and it’s this advanced training that takes time.
