Yes I am native Singaporean.
As for population policy, if the govt imports too many people
from China they might forgo alot of freedom of action in future.
These guys are not docile and tame like us Singaporeans. They are
united, have one mindset, and are much more garang than us. In a
confrontation if Singapore does not side with China, there might be
unrest.
Even leaving aside their patriotic feelings, China has various
ways of pressuring its citizens to act, even if they are outside
the country. Many of them hope to return and have assets back
home.
Chinese people are the most divided race in the world. China
fought more civil wars than war against outside invaders.
In confrontation with whom? there have been issues when the
Chinese were not happy with Singapore, e.g. LHL visited Taiwan, LKY
sided with the US on regional military balance, the netizens of
China kpkb with the fiercest words, but, that never affected the
new citizens or the PR from china.
China is so big, the people in the north never agree with
those in the south, the people from beijing don't agree with the
shanghainese on many many issues. I dont think the chinese outside
china, whether in singapore, US or anywhere would act because of
what their government says.
Our ancesters used to hope to return to Teng Sua, or Tang Shan.
Now we are citizens of singapore, things change!
having said all that, I do agree that the rampant clearance for
immigrants into singapore should be checked, wherever they come
from.
