A little courtesy goes a long way

Hi fellow motorist,

I would like to highlight to all drivers the importance of us not parking in the handicap parking slot. There are special reasons for their existance. I have a friend who have a physical disability and desperately need these slots. Sometimes there are inconsiderate ppl who parked at his slot.

It may be convenient for us to just park and leave but for a person using a wheelchair, its not possible to park at normal slots as they need to open the door fully in order to take out the wheelchair. So I hereby plead to all to consider this the next time you think that no one uses the hadicap slots. With mutual respect, we can make this country a universal place for all.

Agree. Disabled slots are meant for physically challenged people. What goes around comes around. If you park at disabled slots, who knows one day you might need it yourself (touchwood).

yeah i agree although the slots are often empty but they cannot use any other slot so just one slot leave it to them bah......

Hi fren,

There are different type of disabilities, ppl who walk with a limp are also considered physically challenged. They may not need the handicap slots. Its ever so much more important for those with wheelchairs to have that slot available. As i have explained, they need to open the door fully which is impossible in normal slots if another car park beside.

there are just too many pain ass in sg..just like some bloggers..who confessed she “enjoy” using toilets reserved for the handicaps…because its bigger and cleaner. damn it.

Toilets are different from parking lots.... you don't spend just 5 minutes in a parking lot right?

In the REAL world, SELFISHNESS is still thick in society.

The reason not many people park in handicap lots is because of the S$400 fine warning sign next to it. If not for the S$400 Fine sign, half the time, the handicap lot will be occupied by very able bodied motorists - on many occasions, I see branded cars have this tendency to park in handicap lots; Merc., BMW, & Lexus.

Why? Because they have money to get away with it for parking there.

Maybe these ppl don't understand that some physically challenged ppl may have weak bladders due to nerve damage, etc. They may need it urgently. Yes, these toilets may be bigger and cleaner but its not there without a purpose.

Not trying to stereotype any drivers here but the car that is always found using my friend's handicap slot is a mercedes. It all depends on the attitude of the driver itself. I have frens driving merc but they respect this issue too. Very Happy

The Govt ought to hire pple to smash up the cars that were parked in the handicap lots! That will be a more fitting punishment den a fine! Even better if the car park is near to an Army camp... can borrow a TANK to do the job! Laughing

juz call the hotline number..they will be summoned or towed away.but nowadays seldom c cars parked in the handicap lot maybe for loading/unloading as old carparks dun have tis if all the other lots are full

Implement new penalty for parking in handicap lot:

Make the offender Sit on a simple chair in any empty handicap lot 4 hours for a number of days, randomly picked by authorities. He shall also wear a signboard in front and back, stating: "I, Name and NRIC, am sorry for being selfish and inconsiderate, by parking in a handicap lot."

This will surely deter those who have the money to pay for the $400 fine.
