Slight misconception really. Suspension keeps the wheels in contact with the ground, and absorps out some of the bumps so the occupants of the car won't feel it.

I think it was explained by SpoonX in one of his replies.
Something like when the front left smashed onto the kerb, the impact on the rim causes the drive shaft to break thus causing a positive camber effect on the rim as it slant inwards. With that the rim actually acted as a mini 45 degree angle ram acting as a pivot point to launch the car over the kerb. Look at the picture of the MX 5 and see the angle of the left rim maybe u will know wat he meant. I'm not so good at emplaining techie stuff as him but he does not wan to even come in and read anymore not tot mention explain any thing else.

very simple! Lorry weighs 3 or 4 tons. MX5 weighs 1.1 ton. besides, most of the lorry's weight relative to its overall weight is lower down in the center of mass since u mentioned it was unloaded Its angle to the curb was almost parallel, if not actually parallel while the MX5's velocity was oblique.

I've personally mounted a curb at 30km/h b4. Car actually flew up a bit. Was in a corolla. light but still heavier than MX5. If it can happen to a corolla at 30, it can happen to a MX5 at 40.

Reminder. Car did not quite flip until it was hit by oncoming BMW.

well, lighter car will actually oversteer 1st because quite simply, less weight pressing down on the wheels to keep it in contact with road surface. HEavier car has more inertia, so when the same steering force is applied to both cars, what happens is the heavier car will change direction more slowly, while the lighter car will change direction much faster. As a result, the heavier car will 1stly be sluggish, almost perhap it will understeer. Due to its inertia, and due to the extra weight on the tyres pressing it down into contact with the road. Esp in a car which has more people than another car of the same make n brand, most of this weight will go over the rear wheels, thus making it even harder to oversteer. In fact, common sense tells us if u try to take a corner too fast with a heavy car, u will go straight on off the road! That is understeer and it is the terminal opposite of oversteer.

Hope this clears up any confusion u have about weight of a car and its implication on it oversteering.

Spare me from your comments. They are totally shallow. This kind of reaction could only come from someone who is uneducated in the events of the incident. Obviously, you have not revised the factors enough. Post something more worthwhile here next time.

We have no right to finger-point. All we need to do, as a bystander, is to contemplate and consider the incident as a whole (including other factors not involving the driver). None of us have the right to pass a verdict.

2 reasons.

1) Assuming frontal impact, due to the lower curvature on the front of the MX5, the distance of its front wheels to the front, and the force carrying it into the curb, it will certainly mount the curb even if its clearance is low. Hence clearance is not much of a factor in this case

2) If it was a sideways impact with the curb, then clearance is not even in consideration because if u consider a lightweight block of wood with NO clearance, hitting a low curb hard enough, will still tip over.

For your case of talking about SUVs flipping, u're referring to a topple without striking anything else, occuring due to an oversudden change of direction, ie. flipping due to its high CG and inertia alone. In the case of SUV flipping, clearance does not play any major factor here other than adding to the CG of the SUV.

I made it quite obvious that by the term "jerk", I was referring to forumnites who cast their verdict and cursed the death of the driver without getting into the depth of the whole story. It would have been easier for me to say "The driver should get struck by lightning and DIE", however, I just feel the need to propose some of the factors that play their parts in this accident apart from the driver alone.

Anyway, those "jerks" who mindlessly cast their almighty verdicts are in no whatsoever right to do so. A murderer whose intent is solely to kill someone (without any substantial reason other than pure evil) would deserve death.

But would this driver deserve the death as proposed by other forumnites? Do take into account that the driver himself is a victim as well. What right do you have to decide on someone else's life?

Reflect upon the above statement and ask yourself is that being neutral? It is very obvious that these "jerks" have allowed their emotional state of mind to influence their decisions. When emotional influence play a role, a decision/verdict cannot be deemed neutral anymore.

On top of this, anyone knows if there are any traffic cameras along paya lebar rd that may have captured the accident? as in high speed camera or the normal camera to monitor traffic congestion?

And i presume currently the case is under investigation, anyone knows when he's gonna be charged in court or when the case will begin? and if any professionals or academics are asked to do any experiment as in whether the car will or will not flip at certain road conditions, such as speed of car, divider curb, metal plates? Confused

i tot majority of the cars are front wheel drive systems...so funny, just think of it, the whole mechanism of RWD not easy to control....and not intuitive to the driver also...one thing, lousy design...

btw, front the car crash, think the SE may be quite badly mauled in the accident. Hope the morticians can make her beautiful again to send her in her last journey to heaven. Crying or Very sad when alive is beautiful, go to heaven should be beautiful also.

Yah....but then again remember that the car is RWD (rear wheel drive), and that may have really changed everything, including the normal rational used for driving, avoiding a crash, traction etc...versus normal FWD cars...

btw, think this thread getting super long, now 20 pages liao...hard to keep track...can we have part 3 if needed? else let it lay? Smile

Just thinking if a FR config car so lousy why still being deployed, esp the more establish brand like Merc, BMW.......... a number of sport car used this config too.

Personally, I find the handling and balace is better in a FR car, or just maybe I too use to a FR car since I've been driving it for quite a numbers of yrs, illusion??
