In case u guys did not know hokkien,
during China's golden age, which is the Tang Dynasty, the language
spoken there sounded more like a variant of hokkien..
this is evident because linguist found out that Tang Peoms rhymes
and sounds better when recited in hokkien instead of
mandarin.
In fact Japanese language is more related to Hokkien instead of
mandarin too, due to Tang's influence to Japan during that era, in
the later years, during the Ming Dynasty, much of Japanese pirates
raided the Hokkien province, thus influencing japanese speech and
literature even more.
The proper term of Hokkien would be "Min" language.
and cantonese is "Yue", due to its association with "Yue nan"
(vietnam) in history.
Hokkien, isn't an "uneducated" language, is just that people in
Singapore "downgraded" the language. and soon, due to political
changes, Hokkien was downgraded further to a "dialect"
Go on, get a Tang poem and recite in Hokkien...sounds more
melodious than mandarin.
