Auto VS Auto? Should be Altis, right?

Anyway, got a copy of "Wheel" or "Torque" or whatever car magzine that have a table of prices of the cars. There should be a column with "0-100" spec. That should tell you more or less which is faster. Since Auto, then driver's interferences should be kept at minimal.

According to the specs in AA magazine, both Sunny (auto) and Altis (auto) have the same 0-100km/h acceleration time of 11.7s.

For Sunny (Manual), it is 10.2s.

Thats true. No offense to anyone, but how many of us can accelerate using manual as fast as those test drivers?

And in terms of fast-ness, there is always Acceleration vs Max spd.. I think you are talking about acceleration? because in singapore, there is almost no way to reach max speed..

I think the Altis is better.

Sorry, a bit out of line on my part....

For me, the 0-100 km/hr figures are not that important as I don't go sprint the quarter-mile.

What's more important for me is high-end torque for overtaking on the Malaysian highways (say, 80-120 km/hr).

Thats the complaint I have with most new vehicles these days....they are all with the variable valve timing engines tuned to give low-end torque. But overtaking at highway speeds can be sluggish, which can be dangerous. But thats just me, 'cos I run the Malaysian highways often.

i even tried sunny manual from 0 to 100 km/h only 7 secends, from 1st gear to 3rd gear and 4500rpm, already 100km/h, major thing of test pickup speed is changing gear must be as fast as possible and heavy foot.

It will take a longer while to over take at a mere 120 on the NS. I wonder if anyone may share the Altis' strenth or weakness in this area pls.

I think you seldom drive manual car, if you switch from manual car (any even taxi) to auto altis, you will find the weakness of altis.

And in 3rd gear too?

Times must have changed.....when I used to sprint, this is how I did it:

- Handbrake up, engage first year and balance with clutch.

- At the signal "go", release handbrake and accelerate to just above max. torque point (during those times, it was 4000-5000 rpm).

- Quickly switch to second gear and run all the way to 100 km/hr (no time to change to 3rd, or else another 0.5-1.0 secs is lost in the gear change.).

Hmm.. i think lots of cars will have trouble reaching 100kmh in 2nd gear.

You're right - normal saloons of course cannot lah.

But performance vehicles (or even big saloons like the Honda Accord) all can reach 100 km/hr in 2nd gear lah. These vehicles all have red-lines at very high rpms.

Of course they are also all modified.....can red-line a bit also nevermind one. Very Happy

You are right, but i need to correct you lit bit,
1st not release handbrake this action,
2nd you must from 1st gear direct shift to 3rd gear, no more 2nd gear, otherwise you will no time change to 3rd gear, the main issue is how heavy your foot in 1st gear, you must hit to 6000+ rpm or 60+km/h, tmie less than 4secs Evil or Very Mad , otherwise you will lose
