Dr Who SG Is this the pill-box outside Science Park 2 at Pasir Panjang Rd ? Did it see any action in WW2?
idwar SG WW2 Gun which was pointed at the wrong direction, Photographed at Changi, Singapore 2007. Note the canopy ......
idwar SG Firing the 15 inch gun similar to above in 1942......but wrong direction Note the canopy above the Gun to shelter it from the sky...... WW2 photo of the 15 inch Gun
Texcoco II SG not a real reconstruction right? Look to me like a big concrete cube with a tube attached
Texcoco II SG The last time i visited this area there was this gaping hole, (from some construction?) where u can peep in and see dark corridors and tunnels down, quite interesting, anyway the road access to the watchtowers on the hill is closed, too bad
FG42 SG There was a round shape watch tower along Fort Road but it was pulled down about 10 years ago. i love exploring these pillboxes and I think we should try to keep them instead of making way for new construction. They are beautiful and represents part of our history.
OldBird69 SG I totally agree. History (military or non-mil) is more real, and worth much more than words, pictures and history books if you can touch and feel it physically. Thanks for posting the pics everyone. I believe that's a naval 15 inch gun (the turret's at least 5-6 storey deep underground). Reminds me of the huge guns (16 inch x9) of the WWII Battleship USS Missouri in Pearl Harbor I visited 3 years ago.
|-|05| SG nope they aint naval guns. They were built for ground emplacement. there were 3 in singapore i believe.1 funded by the Jorhore Sultan. Anyway the guns where spiked and destroyed during the war. These are just replicas
rascallyun SG The gun mount seems to be just a barrel sticking out of concrete. Where is the ability to elevate the unit? It looks really fake. Like an after thought where they decided to have a faux historical gun placement.
moca SG Has anyone been to the Fort Siloso bunker complex? What about the ones at Fort Canning Hill, are they opened for the public yet? I dunno cos I live overseas.
moca SG Taiwan has a lot of these pill boxes dotting the coast. SOme of them are built into the cliff face above the road at about 2-storey high. Most of them don't look like they are still in use. What is the ROC soldiers guarding the coasts use are these concrete dwellings that may also have built-in bunkers. I guess the real pill boxes are too uncomfortable and will only be used if war seems likely.
cairocks SG This one look exactly like the ones on the road going to Kota Tinggi. I have never seen this design ones so far in Singapore.
Fingolfin_Noldor SG Did they slice the barrel of that 15” gun or something? It’s kinda short for a battleship grade gun.
