Hi all,

Just curious, has anyone shot with eye-protection (ie. Shades, Ballistic Goggles) before? Personally tried 2/3 times with MP5 and once with a Glock 17. Somehow it feels alittle weird. The MP5 which I've used are equipped with a red-dot sight on all occasions, so I feel that its easier to aim, but the Glock had no other sights except its open iron sights. And find that its difficult to get a good sight picture.

Anyone has experience to share?

I only tried firing Armbrust LAW with plastic spectacles.

Used to wear Oakley Blades while shooting – personally I don’t find it made a difference in the results, although obviously it was more comfortable on sunny days.

Personally, I use ESS Ice. Black lenses for outdoor shootings and Yellow for indoors or low light.

Sight picture for most pistols are not THAT hard to acquire. It all starts with stance and posture. Ur head should remain vertically straightened, not cocked down to acquire the sight. Instead, ur arm should bring the weapon UP into the view of the eye for a consistent sight picture.

Where did u shoot the mp5 and glock at? Singapore Gun club?

Shooting shades give you better contrast so it makes it easier for aiming.
Aiming and shooting at close quarters with Red Dot sights greatly speeds up sighting and shooting.

US Army is using red dot, reflex , Holo sights on standard issue rifles on a large scale. Just look at pictures of US troops in Iraq - most have these sights.

Nope. MP5 was during the Army Open Houses at the SOF/CDO booth. Glock was in Thailand.

But anybody has any problems when shooting with eye-protection,especially without the use of aiming/optical aids. What about shooting when wearing a respirator?Does it affect accuracy?

$120 I think. I use it as shades when I’m doing archery as well. But it changes my anchoring a lil.

mopp4 in range...um..not funny...

tried live range with goggles b4...it depends on how well u noe ure rifle and its tendencies and the restrictions of wearing goggles...there is a way of getting over things once u noe the problems...

I think with prescription glasses its okay, and so does shooting with shades. But shooting with ballistic goggles I suppose its a different thing, so does shooting with those helmets with visors.

Very minimal. Even with Z87+ standard polycarbonate lenses. For my ESS, objects tend to look a lil further and higher... thats all. There isn't a world of difference.

However, I wouldn't use my ESS for archery over 30m cos of nosebridge area. It does affect my aiming. But for Pistols and rifles, i think should be no problem... since the face is more or less straightened, and the foresight and rearsight are also "shifted" together with the target.
