Brunei

Singapore have very close defence relations with this ASEAN kingdom. We have permanent training facilities there, regularly conduct joint military exercises and SAFTI have trained Bruneian officers.

Brunei is a small country but very rich due to its oil deposits. Even though it have a lot of money it does have a single fighter in its airforce.

My question is whether Singapore will go to Brunei's aid when its existence is being threaten? Very Happy

Did you know....

That the SAF is even larger that the whole population of Brunei?

Back to reality, We will surely help if Brunei ask for help. If not Singapore will not help as it can't risk losing her "sons" in a war. Just like the situation in Timor Leste.

tankee1981 SG

Singapore have signed any defence treaty or informal agreements with Brunei which states that we will help them in times of war?

beavan SG

it’s more like a common understanding. i think by posting troops there on a more or less permernent basis means we are ready to defend them

Do not worry. Even if we do not help them, the Dutch will surely aid Brunei. i do not think they will let their billion dollar infrastructure be razed to the ground just like that. Not to mention the Sultan is also the PM and Commander of its defence force. he has support from royalties and head of states alike. Mr. Green

I think we will be at a better position to come to Brunei's aid should they are being threatened by invasion. It will the Dutch quite some time to reach this part of the world from Europe. Very Happy

I thought since we are all ASEAN nation, we are obligated to help if ASEAN country need help?

mhcampboy SG

Hmmm... we are part of UN as well, does that mean we should help during the last Iraq war as well?...

MohamedF SG

Did they ask for our help as well? Sides... It's a U.S. lead war, not a UN lead war...

If I’m not wrong, I think RAF got a small detachment there protecting the oil fields.

beavan SG

judging from ur nick, i guess you are pretty biased

mhcampboy SG

Hmm... I didnt say side with Iraq nor US. Im just saying, we are part of UN. And Iraq is also part UN. You said we are part of Asean. So we shld help. Iraq is part of UN. U dun see us helping them do u...

Note: this is not abt iraq war. im just using the scenario as an example. Rolling Eyes

MohamedF SG

We are obligated to help in some way, but they didn't ask for help... East-Timor on the other hand, did....

mhcampboy SG

East Timor is not part of Asean. Rolling Eyes

What are you saying...im just saying...that you are wrong. Just because we are part of Asean we must help each other...... so i gave u the UN scenario as an example!

if brunei is on war, you think any tom dick harry country will help izzit?...

MohamedF SG

East_timor may not be a part of ASEAN, but it is a part of UN with a different set of rules....

As SEA countries are a part of ASEAN, they've signed a treaty to keep the peace in SEA, including Brunei....

Singapore also signed an agreement with FPDA. And tons of other security act with other countries. So if America invade Brunei, u think Singapore will help?

MohamedF SG

This FPDA is an agreement that covers the defence of these 5 countries only right? If Singapore chose to aid Brunei, is there a clause to state that we can't? As long as there are no clauses that states that we are not allowed to help, then we are allowed to help.

But against America, Singapore will probably get nuked and be nothing more than.... nothing.

mhcampboy SG

Ok. I start all over. Im not here to debate war with you. You still dont get it.

You mention .....

I thought since we are all ASEAN nation, we are obligated to help if ASEAN country need help?

You thought wrong ok. Doesnt mean we are part of ASEAN we must help out each other. Ok done. Rolling Eyes

Geesh...

MohamedF SG

Shocked Shocked Shocked Like that, what's the use of creating ASEAN in the first place???

mhcampboy SG

The same thing why Leaque of Nations were created. The same thing why NATO was created. The same thing why UN was created.

The reason why UN or ASEAN is still standing is because war hasnt breaks out yet. Study the history of the Leaque Of Nations then you will understand.
