I think you need to brush up on your knowledge on PRC's naval capabilities.
The PLN has introduced several classes of new frigates and destroyers. They are namely:

Destroyers
Type 51C
Type 52B
Type 52C
Frigates
Type 54

They may not be as advanced as the Japanese Kongo class or maybe even Murasame cass, but they are definitely a quantum leap over even the Luhu class. At present rate of production, by the end of the decade, they can match the Japanese in several aspects, if not all, of naval warfare, especially anti-ship capabilities. Ultimately, it may boils down to training and logistics, as well as tactics, which I believe the Japanese would still hold the edge for quite a while.

Have seen that new destroyers and frigates in China in May 05 (location sensitive). Pendant No 168, 170 (destroyer size), 525 and 526 (smaller ships - frigate size).

170 - Equipped with Aegis lookalike Phase Array Radar, Band Stand SSM FCR, Project 956E's SAM FCR lookalike, 8 batteries X 6 cells VLS version of PL-10, 8 X SSM in tubular launcher (Possibly a imp version of C-802) 4 X 2 launchers, 2 X Goalkeeper CIWS (One in front, one at the aft) and one 100mm gun (French Creusot-Loire lookalike). Ka-28 Helo with hanger. CODOG

168 - Top-Plate 3D radar, FCR for SSM and SAM looks the same, 2 X single SA-N-7 launcher, 2 X Goalkeeper CIWS (One on each side). 4 X 4 SSM boxed launchers (looks like C-802, found onboard Luhai class), 2 X RBU rockets, Ka-28 with hanger.

525, 526 - French origin Surveillance radar (looks like sea tiger). Crotale SAM with associated FCR. 2 X 4 boxed launcher believe to be C-802. 100mm gun and Ka-28 with helo hangers. 2 X RBU-rockets, 4 X AK-630 type CIWS. (two on both side, above helo hanger and below the funnel) Looks like conventional propulsion. (Diesel engine)

Btw, JMSDF have been running around with Shirane and Haruna for several years. Haruna commissioned in Feb 1973, Shirane in Mar 1980.

Are you referring to Oshimi and Shimokita? Haruna and Shirane are old destroyers which I had mentioned in previous posting. Oshimi and Shimokita, according to JMSDF, is a LST (LST? doesn't fit the designation). but in fact if you look at it close eoungh. It looks like a uncompleted assault carrier or LPH. What you need to put in is a ski ramp, just lke the invincible. By then, you can operate VTOL/STOL aircraft, which is easily available to them. AV-8 series. or V-22. They can also carry what they have now. Namely Seaknight, Chinook, Cobra, Apache and seahawk. Effectively a assault amphibious carrier. How about that. It is time for China to sell more goods to the world to get enough money to get herself a carrier to strike a balance in the region.

However, some of ur info is not correct enough, let me point out:

The Aegis looklike radar is an Active Phased Array Radar works on C-band, based on the technology developed by Ukrainian Kvant and financed by PLA.

The Kvant Bureau of Ukraine disclosed some new details regarding its new active phased array long-range naval radar. In early 2004 reports from the Ukraine noted that China had purchased a Ukrainian phased array radar for a new class of destroyers. This presumably is the new 170-class destroyer, the PLA Navy's most modern air-defense destroyer. While first revealing this radar in France in 2004, Kvant officials at IDEX did not disclose the designation for the new radar, but did provide a photo and some performance details. It is a C-Band radar that has a 150-160km range in broad search mode. In spot mode the radar has a much longer range. It can track about 150 aircraft-size targets. For proper ship defense this centimeter-wave radar should be paired with counter-stealth capable meter-wave radar. China's 170-class destroyer does just this.

So u can recall the PAC-2s MPQ-53 is also an APAR(ASEA) radar works on C-band. The MPQ-53 can do tracking /searching/and missile guiding all in 1, so the new Radar on Type052 No170 DDG does the same job, there are no separated fire-controlling radars(FCR) for Type052Cs long range SAM, believed to a naval variation of PLAAF HQ-9A TVM SAM. ( Not the PL10 u mentioned). PLAAFs HQ-9A believed to have a slant range up to 150km and Max speed 4-6 M.

However, becoz the Aegis's SPY-1 radar still works on S-band, the radar works on such bandwidth is just not good enough to guide SM-2 , so there'r AN/SPG-62 doing the FCR job....

Thank you for the overwhelming response! I am indeed very pleased that the currently generation are so updated in terms of military technologies are concern, in particularly in the Naval fields. Our RSN has really suffers in terms of attentions, lack of hardware and a decent platform to perform their duties in the 70s, 80s and early 90s. It was the software the human elements that believes not only in themselves but the entire fleet, that we will defend our sea-lanes against pirates and occasionally unofficial confrontations, let alone on SAR duties and refugee mission.

The RSN pioneers contributions are not based on monetary rewards (with 30 bucks sea allowance?) but national duties. Among the tri-services, I believe the RSN has more conflict encounters as compare to the other remaining services.

I would also like to thanks those that have complimented my writings and I hope to contribute my part III by this week but first let me finish 2 my tender submission, no choice lah, got 4 mouths to feed, hopefully can produce 2 additional RSN sailors!
