honda city - fuel efficiency question

i am driving a relatively new (about 6 mths) honda city i-dsi

my car has been able to go 17+ km / litre. however there were 2 instances when the fuel efficiency fell to 15+ km / litre. (i remembered very clearly there were only 2 instances). one of them was only this sunday.

for those 2 instances, i was using the same type and grade of petrol, and i did not change my driving habits and locations drastically.

what could have led to the fall in the fuel efficiency, and why the fall to 15+ instead of a more moderate 16+?

I am driving the VTEC version and of cos mine FC is not as good as yours, but the last time my FC drop from 14/L to 12/L was because I was carrying alot of things in my car and also my tire pressure was damn low.....

Check it out....other things I haven check yet....

1. tyre pressure is lower than before.
2. driving against stronger head winds
3. something in the boot
4. maybe there's something different in the petrol

ur tire pressure went down and maybe u are slightly more heavy footed than before. Mr. Green

and i'm envious you are getting more than 15km/liter.

mine is about 12 onli.

tyre pressure... unlikely rite? if tts the case it should stay consistently low. and somemore its rather new leh.

nothing special in the boot...

but yah.. mabbe i was more heavy footed. i have to admit it grows into me - the more i drive the more i tend to accelerate and go faster! Neutral

ya.. 6mth is a new car.. agreed.. but u drive almost everyday (i assume).. ur tyres definitely lose air somehow this way or another..

b4 i pumped my tyres.. 1 full tank for my camry lasted me 420-430..

after i pumped my tyres.. 1 full tank lasts me for 480-500..

hm.. wat is the so-called norm before one needs to check on tyre pressure?

its best to check ur psi on ur tyres? i got a thread on tyre pressure before.. maybe u can do a search on it.

most of the tyres out there is 220. so go to the petrol station and turn the knob to 220 and pump till the bell stops ringing..

but just to be safe, check the sides of ur tyre or door sill for the suggested/intended air pressure before start pumping.

hope ur FC increases after pumping air.. cheers.

i check every 2-3 tanks of petrol. thats about every 1.5 weeks.

coz i cover about 1k KM per week.

air pressure should be checked reguarly. else you may end up with uneven tire wear. which is not really a good thing besides affecting your FC.

How you managed to do it? Shocked Shocked Mine ride is about two months...best reading 13.5.... have been averaging 12.

Does "opening" of tiptronic matters at all?

By the way, i guess what is referred to as the 'opening' of the tiptronic is the to uses the button to select the gears.

Just that I can't see how it affects fc? Please enlighten.

Could be the different between manual and auto car. Since "wuming78" doesn't know it, means he might be driving a manual car. Basically Auto car's FC is weaker than manual car, further more if you activate the "tiptronic"...... isn't it "steer-matic"?? Anyway, if you rev with an auto car, the FC will suffer much more.

Accutually if u do a detailed research… i think Honda City Vtec is the fastest auto car from the 1.6 litre range and below without modification of any sort.
