Boeing says RSAF will follow Korea

LazerLordz SG

My sentiments exactly.I would rule out the Rafale. We don't have a history of being the test rat for other people's weapons systems, unless it's our own.

sidestep1984 SG

the f15e is still as good an air to air interceptor as it is a air to land plane.....just bcos it is called the strike eagle....it is still a good air to air fighter....just that it is now capable of multirole missions....load it up with amraams...sparrows and sidewinders and it'll still be as potent as ever...considering the f15e has a wizzo....the plane can now fight ala f14s....pilot concentrate on flying...wizzos concentrate on acquiring the enemy.....

just dont assume that it being the strike eagle..it lost its air interceptor roots......it just got better......

off topic...its onli been a couple of years(5-6?someone enlighten me on this..) that the RSAF has been recruiting WSO(fighters) rite?....surely for the new f16s...and for the ngf(i suppose)...practically onli the f15t would need wizzos...

For EuroFighter, if we take, we are their 1st Asian order… Again, a test rat

LazerLordz SG

Good observation there. The new Blk 52+s are C/D models and we are intensively recruiting WSOs.The Rafale and Eurofighter are single-seaters, what will we do with all that extra WSOs?Send them to ADA?No way, so I guess the signs are becoming clearer. The Strike Eagle is a multi-role fighter with intereceptor roots and a deep strike destiny.

Orcishwarrior SG

if we purchase either the Rafale or Eurofighter. We will have the whole spectums of weaponary especially the Storm Shadow or Apache, Brimstone, Meteor (2010), Mica and etc. Thats gonna be impressive. Very Happy

LazerLordz SG

DSTA can find ways to integrate these weapons into our planes, provided they can get the source code for the Eagle.

sbst275 SG

Ya... But as being a test - rat for the French?

ThebetterRob SG

Well the Eurofighter is a good crossbreed of the advantages of Rafale and the F15:

- modern technology like Rafale (missiles, airframe, stealth)
- long production run with 638 aircraft ordered by five nations with quite a few others interested too (Norway, Saudi-Arabia, Turkey)

I think Singapore will go Eurofighter.

sbst275 SG

But are you willing to the Asian test - rat?

Rockhound SG

well as i said earlier(now no more sidestep1984 arh)...

recently the rsaf have been recruiting wso(fighter)...so most probably to fill in the numbers for the block 52+ f16s and probably the f15t....

Goondu74 SG

Place your bets here! Odds at 2:3 for F15, 1:2 for Typhoon and 1:4 for Rafale!

Rockhound SG

I'd say the f15t....just dont underestimate the old warhorse......its not like boeing gonna give us refitted old planes

gary1910 SG

Getting EF or Rafale, we might get ALCM(Air Launched Cruise Missile).

French and UK is will to provide us the source codes.

US most probably none of the above.

F-15 production will be closed after the SKorea delivery 2008?

Let's say we get F-15T, the production line will most likely close after our delivery.

What if we want more due to attrition or increase tension in the region??

It will be more costly for us to reopen the line!!!!

So anything but F-15Ts!!!!

sgFish SG

We can probably get the SLAM-ER from the US...if they restrict that, there are always AGM-142s from Israel...

source codes i'm not sure..are they the same as the Israeli ones?

Warren Buffet SG

I don't quite understand the issue with the source codes......

If it's WVR weapons....you probably need to modify/add/control the HUD and HMD symbols? This one is problematic. I don't think you need source codes.

If the mission computer is COTS then it's possible to plug (VME or Compact PCI) a RSAF specific processor card that can talk with the other existing cards. Probably at cost of greater time delay.

Boeing can generate a set of APIs or Data and Control Packets for this specific processor to integrate the DASH or other weapons. But this require alot of planning to capture all the parameters you need for such integration.

If it's BVR or standoff.....assuming it's WSO's job.....then it's possible to use another MMC with video multiplex/mix into existing display units. All the information to compute the firing solution should be on the 1553 databus.

Rockhound SG

a long time ago...there used to be a game called US navy fighters....

i had sick fun with the Slammers....hehehehehehe

Noeyessee SG

Rafale might be in….look at www.miw.com.sg..all is rafale…

sgFish SG

only one article...

Orcishwarrior SG

The French airforce and navy are both flying the rafale. British, German, spanish and ltalian are using EF2000. The French Govt has approved F3 standard Rafale F3 will be delivered from 2007 and the first squadron of 20 aircraft will be in service in 2008.

Why would we be called a laboratory mouse.

SMAPLionHeart SG

Muslims will kpkb..i suggest we go for Boeing 747 to defend our skies instead.
Nah, just joking.

My bet is on , EuroFighter , high prospects for their future , rather then F-15T , which has a good history .

The future gonna look brighter then the history , hence i choose EuroFighter.
