F-15 may be so frequently pushed as it is combat aircraft with a
proven track record. However, foreign sales of the F15 is also
bolstered by the US Military itself.I mean, look at Israel, simple
things like their small arms the Galil,Tar-21,Magev etc. all do not
have a market of their own even in their own country as the US is
actively contributing military aid which can only be used to
purchase American equipment to Israel, thus explaining why they have
so much American equipment. Also,it must be realised that there can
be political advantages if we buy the F-15,although its way past
its era.
And we must also note Singapore's position in ASEAN,we have one of
the most advance and capable airforce in the region. And I belief
that no Air Force in the region possess a major piece of equipment
like the F15 which is deemed as an Air-Superiority Fighter.By
getting it,we may accidentally trigger an arms race which is not
exactly healthy...although I really wonder what type of aircraft
countries like Indonesia can get.So perhaps it would affect our
Northern friends, making them go into a fighter buying frenzy as
well.In recent years especially, they have been responding well to
purchase of Russian aviation technology like the SU-30 etc...
Thus its perhaps more wise for the RSAF to consider the Rafale and
Typhoon.Although both are relatively untested, its new technology
compared with the F15.
