ah same taste in sound as me. bass heavy. lol. sadly the sound system is a bit crap. Bass not heavy enough for my liking, otherwise the car is generally lovely. Only other grouse is the transmission. But hey I'm sure u could go do up the audio system for a bass heavy sound. Smile

I say it's unique because it's a performance SUV (comes with a stiff ride too but the steering is vague, according to torque) with most of the running gear coming from the Evo VII. I just have my doubts about the reliabilty, only because of the cover-ups. If it doesn't bother you, go ahead and test it.

Dunno lea, i last time drive my uncle's Airtrek Turbo got problem..the gear teth break as said by the auth service cte...

But again is due to my uncle go mod till quite powerful lah...almost on par wid a wrx i play with, as i driving...Top go till 219km/h..Awesome...

Or stock Airtrek Turbo already so fast? Can on par wid rex?Cos i read is EVO 7 engine as quote by someone in earlier post...

yes.. stock airtrek turbo is already this powerful..

i went for a testdrive this afternoon at leng kee.. oh man.. the power is soooo nice.. though its 40bhp lower than sti/evo.. i dont believe it'll lose in a race or watsoever..

its really a great car.. i was at gear 3.. SE told me.. "shift down an play la.."
den the turbo and power.. woots.. i was at 80km/h.. den went up to 100-120 in a short few secs..

btw.. heng.. full tank how much? using RON98 from shell or watever. mileage?

Just a few things to be said ..

Understand that it is a powerful vehicle that can cause lotsa damage if driven irresponsibly. Or if u just lost concentration. Just go ask a traffic lamp around Clementi.

Understand that SUVs in general use more fuel than a comparably engined sedan. This added to the fact that there will be times that u will want to feel the power of the engine, will mean more trips to the petrol station. And pump prices just went up a few days ago.

Not trying to preach but just FYI.

tell ur mom u buying airtrek, an SUV from mitsu and show her the catalog for the normal airtrek, thereby assuring her it is a safe and reliable family car.

then when u buy, get the one with the turbo...... and take off the "turbo" tag at the back. Twisted Evil

hmmmm ok lets be under no illusions. assuming both drivers are equally skilled, an ATR is already 40bhp down on a STi/ EVO. furthermore, its auto, so it WILL lose. of course, there is more of an element of "family" about it, which is why its unique. tell your mom that its a family orientated car! Very Happy

tat day is the 1st time i drive auto vehicle ..wheel can spin..lolx..dunno mah...tot only manual can as got clutch..tat time jus get liscent..

only remember the ATR gearbox come out weired noise when i chase te wrx den i hear those rattling sound.gear moving/rpm going up but car slowing down.. Laughing

den call uncle say spoil liao..hahaha...kanna "F" jia lat... Embarassed

But i would say its a gd & comfortable ride,as stock standert.no modding of suspension or bucket seats..its lik can sleep inside.

well I don't know what your uncle has done to his ATR so I can't really comment about his gearbox. But I suppose he must have modded it up a lot. But there is one part I certainly have to agree with you, and thats the "its lik can sleep inside." It really is quite comfy.

I understand that Singapore is actually a parts distribution base for SE-Asia and the parts center is located at Changi. VW is now the shareholder of Proton in Malaysia and very soon they will be assembling Passat in MY.

Airtrek or Mitsubishi (except for Evos) cars is abit like Milo tin lah... Smile All they have is raw power, as far as ride comfort, handling and reliability is concern, I think the Passat will be better. Dont forget that Mitsubishi (the company) is also in all sort of financial trouble, as such you can be sure their budget for R&D will be very limited.

Airtrek like milo tin? U driven one b4 to comment on it? I personally quite like the comfort, and I'm talking from a level of comfort based on Merc cars. Handling and reliability? once again, the handling is pretty sporty, firm but not overly hard, and reliablity wise we've had no problems. what makes u think the passat is better in these areas? while I personally like VW cars quite a bit, u should know that the passat is described by car mags as being rather boring and devoid of any real feel. handling certainly is not better than the Airtrek.

Lets face it. u want a lively VW, go get the new Golf GTi. thats a gem of a car!
Alternatively, if space is not as big a consideration, a Renault Cliosport is a very rewarding car to drive as well.

By the way, the new Golf has the GTi in 5 door varient as well, but im not too sure if it's launched in Singapore yet. Still, imagine that handsome black grill with the red trim. What heritage!

You laugh at the Porsche Cayenne for being High CG and cannot corner well....well, please go do some research....The Cayenne will be the Airtrek Turbo flat out in cornering on stock springs.
Its only those boy racers go and put Tein or aft market springs, then maybe can come close. But then again, Porsche has their motorsports parts as well. If you have check out some of the aft market parts for the Cayenne.

I am just telling you, no doubt the Airtrek is a fast car, but in terms of refinement and re-sale value, its not going to be good for you. The 2nd car markt is so saturated, went to Turf club city yesterday, man, dead town..

So, driving a VW Passat, at least, it gaurantees a certain re-sale value for you.
Can drive fast no use, TP everywhere....at least u drive a VW, the TP don't aim you that much....
