You laugh at the Porsche Cayenne for being High CG and cannot corner well....well, please go do some research....The Cayenne will beat the Airtrek Turbo flat out in cornering on stock springs. Cayenne Turbo, don't even come close at all....hahaha...
Its only those boy racers go and put Tein or aft market springs, then maybe can come close. But then again, Porsche has their motorsports parts as well. If you have check out some of the aft market parts for the Cayenne.

I am just telling you, no doubt the Airtrek is a fast car, but in terms of refinement and re-sale value, its not going to be good for you. The 2nd car markt is so saturated, went to Turf club city yesterday, man, dead town..

So, driving a VW Passat, at least, it gaurantees a certain re-sale value for you.
Can drive fast no use, TP everywhere....at least u drive a VW, the TP don't aim you that much....

I have driven the Lancer (9 Cool and Galant (2000) before and all I can say is that Mit cars looks good from the outside but feel cheap and filmsy from this inside. And the worst about Mit cars is that they are not build to last. And that is why their car bodies are worth the least in the export market.

Why I say it is like Milo Tin? Just by slamming the door and traveling at high speed along the NS highway.

If you want to get a performance cars, why choose a Airtrek? Why dont you just go straight for the EVO? In term of rear leg room, i dont think the Airtrek is any bigger than the normal Lancer. Especially if you consider that Airtrek is build on the Lancer platform.

As for Passat, it is a german made car that offer you the solid continental feel. More importantly they are properly tested and designed to offer you good road holding and safety when travelling at high speed.

u've driven the lancer n galant, so u say those r like milo tin, then never mind. but u've never driven an airtrek dun anyhow say it's like milo tin.

as for why get the airtrek, the reason is simply because it's about 20 to 30k cheaper than an EVO, and it's also a SUV instead of a saloon car layout.

and the passat may have good road holding and safety when travelling at high speed, it's certainly a bit of a dud to drive, something i dare say, considering my cousin's driving one now. and i believe zerocool did state that he would prefer something more exciting.

Passat is not that boring lah...if you have 1.8T, chip it and lower the suspension you should be ready to go. As for Mitsubishi, I already have enough of it. Yes it is a good car when it is new, try driving it for a couple of years and see if it is still the same car. Honestly if the car is lasting, I dont see why it fetch such a low resale value. If I remember correctly in USA Mitsubishi has one of the worst resale value, partly due to the company reputation of hiding technical fault and customers complains.

If I want to spend 100+K on a car, I would honestly go for a continental.

Yes. I agreed with Gazelle's point of view. Mitsu are nice cars when new, but 5 years down the road, man, worse than a pick up....the workmanship all like shit....just take a look at a 3 yr old Lancer, you know the answer already.

But take a look at a 3 yr old VW or Auqi, totally different. ITs still as tight as when it was new. And engine wise, still as good as new if service properly.

Why didnt you highlight that Audi and VW are ranked 3 and 4th in term of brand image, while Mitsubishi is rank 22nd? Doesnt brand image tells you about the quality, the build and technology of the cars?

I think customer satisfaction has got to do with things that are not really related to the cars itself but rather things like value for money, cost of running the car and customer service etc.?

Brand image doesn't tell me much apart from what the customer perceives from the apparent build quality (texture of materials, paint finish, showroom appeal etc), the marketing efforts and the reputation the marque built over the years. and remember that the Germans hold their own brands highly.

Customer satisfaction is based on driving enjoyment, long-term reliability and yes, customer service and cost of running. But even high quality plastics and exquisite paint finishes can't make up for the misery when the car spends more time in the workshop than on the road and the electronics go haywire without warning.

There wasn't a need to highlight the brand image, VW King did plenty on their behalf and anyone who reads up knows about the gizmos and the softness of the plastics used in the cars. You may argue that the attention to detail is an indicator of things in general but it isn't a foolproof way of knowing whether the car is a workhorse.

I'm not sure how this customer satisfaction is rated, but hyundai is 10th and premium car makes i.e BMW, Merc, VW are rated below it? Considering that your average korean car doesn't ride as well as the average japanese car and the conti cars "supposedly" ride better then their japanese rivals makes me wonder how these ratings are sureveyed.

Engine on Mitsu cars can become problematic after 4-5 yrs 2nd hand car dealers tell me 3 yrs, coupled with a crappy gearbox that needs a major overhaul. This comes from having owned a lancer for 3 yrs.

Reputation, as I have said, is everything the marque is made out to be and is about the words that come to mind when you mention its name.

VW was like Germany's answer to Toyota to begin with (I don't deny that) and it's been relatively successful in trying to move itself upmarket and convey the image of quality through the finish of its products. So far the recent problems have not been high-profile like the rusting Fiats of yore and the Mitsubishi cover-ups, which have tarnished the latter's reputation.

However things can change quickly, we know the problems are there and the survey shows that VW and MB are not living up to the expectations of their customers. It's all about what you hear more of.

Kudos for finding that website, I also managed to find webpages documenting VW horrors, so now we have both sides of the story.
