CLK DTM is a race car. AMG is a road going car. They are only comparing road going cars on Top Gear.

ermmmmm guys..... turbo lag does not matter much u see..... as a professional driver, u can't be driving at 60km/h at gear 5 right at 1800 rpm???? if 60km/h driving at gear 5 right, sure lag one mah... turbo engine leh..... 60km/h maybe for evo is at gear 1 or 2 what...... if you are in gear 1 or 2 driving at 60km at 4500 rpm when the turbo kicks in, i don't think there is a lag.

well, no matter what cars u are driving, the skill of the driver does an important parts. maybe the other drivers are not in their top form.

As a professional driver!!!! Laughing how many EVO owner here are professional driver? turbo lag does not matter if you are racing, but it can be very dangerous for day to day driving. And that is also the reason why insurance companies charge a high premium for REX and EVO car.

All I can say is the EVO VIII is a over tuned, turbo charged, heavily modified saloon car that is not practical for day to day driving. Maybe this is a type of car for people who need the extra horse power to boost their EGO on the road. Laughing

Beside pure horse power, I think we also need to touch on the maintain cost for this heavily modified car. Btw, does anybody know how much it will cost to replace the Brembo brake disc and pad, and also the insurance premium you have to pay for driving this japanese saloon car?

but there is always a case of instantaneous power.

an NA 350bhp engine will be faster when exiting from a corner as compared to a turbocharged 350bhp engine. assuming the weights of both cars are similar.

if not y don't they fit turbos to modern F1 cars? think about it.

I believe one of the reason to ban turbos for F1 ening is to make it more challenging for the engineer to design and build NA engines that can deliver the higher horse power and higher RPM.

For turbo cars, I would say that it is much easier to increase the power. Take the VAG 1.8T engine for example, there are tuners out that that is offer modification to boost this tiny engine to produce up to 500+ BHP.

what? u have any idea what u are saying? turbo lag is a major turn off and a critical factor in determining lap times for turbo charged vehicles.

while it may be argued that a good driver will know the proper selection of gear to minimize lag through each corner, anyone with an inkling of track experience can tell u that there are some scenarios whereby this is not possible either because of track condition (eg, slower car blocking ur fast lining) or gear ratio (eg, select lower gear too much power, higher gear too much lag).

therefore, minimizing lag is one major concern for a big part of turbo charged car owners.

i dun get u. why is turbo lag dangerous for daily driving? turbo lag is hardly noticeable under part throttle IMO. and why is that a reason for insurance companies to charge a higher premium for insuring those cars with turbo lag? tot once got turbo will charge higher liao? Confused

What I am saying is this Evo VIII turbo is tuned to generate 340BHP and if there is a lag, the power will only kick in at higher rev, which also mean a more drastic surge in power which can be dangerous.

I am not saying that having a turbo cars mean higher insurance premium. However I would say that cars like EVO is definitely very expensive to insured.

Btw, I am driving a turbo car at the moment and I am paying much lesser premium than my previous NA car.

There IS 2 FQ version of the Evo running on singapore roads .... one 340 and one 400 ....

Hint: Look at its rear bumper and the conrad when you see an Evo VIII pass you ... no idiot will spend extra to fix the foggeys and the CF conrad.

But to contradict myself ... well maybe there are some idiots who will spend money on those.

the last i checked, 3 quarters of the annual premium for my NA car now can pay for a whole year's insurance if i were to drive the evo. IMO, turbo insurance still relatively affordable Crying or Very sad

the surge of a 340 hp evo still not very scary in any case. it only takes a dud of a driver to ruin even a base 280 hp one. Wink
