my second choice would be countermeasures from Rafael, associated with SEW/RAN-1110 systems, given the mast have some antennas that look like it.

Assuming the sidewall stealthing those launchers are either not to scale or moveable......

Another wild idea for those launcher is CRV-7s. I remember reading about laser guided versions of these rockets. Ties in well with the EO turrets.

With so many versions of warhead, it's possible to add a beach head fire support role not that it's relevant today.

ASW rockets maybe effective if only as a deterrent especially in shallow waters and if the threat has penetrated the line of defense???

I believe that could be the SatCom or similar stuff. Couldn't be a Search Radar like the British Type 45 or the Horizon Frigates.

On the radar..... Yah it's not Aegis. I think there is a discussion in some forum somewhere with rather specific details about its performance. Something to do with the scan rates, volume etc and number of hits per target or something like that.

Some sceptism posted if I remember correctly.

Don't think the picture is correct as it will require rotation of the aperture to have 360 coverage but Viper52 doesn't think the radar mast is rotating?

That means you need at least 3 radiating panels.

Probably the standard for the RAN to match when they decide to get their Air Defense Destroyer to replace the Adams class.

The Round Radome between the engine exhaust is Satcom in another frequency band. Don't know why they don't use the arrangement of the Royal Navy where they have two on the sides?

ASW rockets are not used by eastern bloc countries only. Sweden and Finland uses them. In Asia Pac, apart from PLAN, RMN also has them.

It's better than using depth charges, which is now really obsolete.

How do you define as "better"? Is it because ASW rockets can be fired some few hundred meters away whereas you practically have to run a course and lay the depth charges at an intervals?

BTW, ASW rockets and depth charges, I believe, are great at shallow waters but at deeper waters, Torpedoes are still the best ASW weapons.

First I would like to retract when I said that only eastern bloc uses ASW rockets. Yeah the Baltic countries also uses them for coastal ASW work. And the RMN also uses them. Hmm, maybe the RSN also wants ASW rockets seems the water around the region is suppose to be shallow. It would be strange if the first platform where we mount ASW rockets (suitable for shallow waters) is our "blue-water" frigates.

And maybe I am too sweeping by saying that ASW rockets are obsolete just because the USN is phasing them out/no longer use them.

I agree that ASW rockets are suppose to be more effective compared to depth charges, although some small ships still have depth charges racks fitted. As stated by another person earlier, the Anti-Sub Torpedo seems to be the most preferred weapon either launched from the ship or from its on-board heli.

The USN ASROC is suppos to be able to carry a Anti-sub torpedo as well, it is suppose to launch and drop right on top of the sub and seek out the Sub. It also can carry nuclear depth charges.

But then it doesn't seem to make sense to have a ASW rocket mounted on top of the hangar pointing at the stern! Unless it is suppose to be a last ditch defence against acoustic a anti-ship torpedo!

Well you have a point about ASW rockets and "blue-water" since the Deltas are fitted with the Tow Array.......and will probably spend most of it's mission time in deeper waters.

Still you need to transit Malacca straits to Andaman Seas and then the approaches to South China Sea is also "green-water"

I think those launchers are multi purpose....and the rockets/missiles are modular design like CRV-7s......fire control for these weapons my guess is very likely to be semi-active homing EO (jam proof laser direction).......haven't seen any provisions for microwave fire directors?

So maybe role for Gabriels, Decoys, ASW are allocated to these 3 launchers! Wow, first in the world - ST product?

Any comments on the posting regarding performance of the Herakles radar?

Seems the specs sounds too far reaching - for single rotating aperture.......something to do with too many pencil beams/sec to achieve effective volume search plus surface surveillance etc.

Lend credence to the need for fixed multi face 'APAR' type radar???

RBS70 is used by the RSAF, dunno whether it is suitable for navy light frigates. I think the ban on Singapore has been lifted already.

I still think its RAM. Specially requested by the RSN.

Note ASROCs you need to have some standoff distance to use it. After all you are talking about rockets. In the narrow Straits of Singapore, you need to be careful about collateral damage.

The 3 launchers on the frigate could be the NGDS from EADS. It is suppose to be multi-role launcher for decoys against antiship missile and torpedoes. The design and shape of the launcher is quite close to those seen on the mockup.. Wink

No i dun think so.
Can see the diff between the 2.
1) there's a covering outer shell on the RSN system, none on NGDS
2) the pods of the RSN is 4x2 while the NGDS is 4x3
3) the base fixing also look different.

thou i also dunno what system is that, but i'm quite sure its not the NGDS unless they will modify it.
anyone has a diff opinion?
