Hi Dr Eac and all the Brothers out
there,
First of all, I am truly grateful for this platform having been
created to take our queries. I would like to reaffirm Dr Eac and
friends that your efforts are not wasted!
I'm currently serving NS. Got injured in BMT with shoulder labral
tear, in a few rifle related incidents, and went for my surgery
after BMT. During the 1st post op review, the assistant specialist
wrote me a memo. It stated the recurrent subluxations I was having,
the surgery underwent and also a,very direct, downgrade
recommendation. [is that strong-worded enough?]
When I went back to see the army 2lta mo, he didnt accept my
specialist's memo and told me that my pes b2 status stays. From my
understanding pes b2 exempts me from chin-ups only and I'm still
eligible for combat. It is worrying because my injury was
rifle-related, not once, but thrice. After showing him how limited
my movement was, he told me to get more information.
And so I went back to my specialist[assoc prof] and told him about
it. It was a straight no from him. I told him that the 2lta mo said
that I can't be downgraded with the memo. The specialist read what
the assistant specialist wrote, he then said that the 2lta was not
following the SOP, which is to send in a formal request asking for
a report.
At this point of time, the physiotherapist has taken my
measurements and the specialist is informed. I can only raise that
particular arm about 45deg above my shoulder and lift a weight of
about 1.3kg
my questions would be:
Is my memo not strong-worded enough?
Was the 2lta right about needing more information when the
specialist already recommended a downgrade?
Was the specialist right about the SOP?
Does this mean that the 2lta mo is already attached to my case and
I need to specifically make an appointment to look for him in the
future or can I see any mo at the medical centre?
Have I missed out any helpful information that would be good for
the mo and medical board to know?Be it general or specific to my
injury.
Thank you very
much.
The point is this shoulder injury is like flu, fever, twisted
ankle. In medical point of view, you are supposed to go for physo,
then they somehow 'cure' you and you recovered as per normal before
the injury.(Back to Pes B)
So you should get a home MC for like 3 months after the
injury/operations. Then later excuse ALL upper limb activities
(include typing) for 1 year. Then continued to excuse for another 5
years until it is recovered. Meanwhile get "cured" by
physo.
Shoulder injury/dislocation is usually Pes B2 (previous C1)
L1/2/3 excuse IPPT chin up. You can get perm excuse upper limb
activities, heavy load and overhead limb activites (no
grenades).
Tips: get referred to neurologist to see if there are any limb
weakness. Usually, certain trauma may also damage the "strength"
and "agility" of the limb.
