Getting girls to serve in national service can come in many other ways. For example, they can be trained as nurses or paramedic and serve in hospitals etc. Since there is a shortage of nurses out there and the hospitals kept importing nurses into Singapore, the government might as well make use of training girls and letting them serve in hospitals for 2 years. Moreover their skills could be useful in times of war. 1 day in Tekong will not make those 50 women know alot about army life.

Its like in secondary school where CCAs have their open house. They will tell you how good their CCA is and what you can get when you join them. But after you join the ugly side of them comes out. You will never whats in the ugly side of life until you truely experience it.

no lar.. make them go for basic social work training 3 mths..
den assign them by "PES status" hahaha n perfomance.. to
different welfare n charity organisations to help out as low wage social workers... or can juz make them go help out once a week.. but will not be paid... yeah... den they contribute to society too

For nursing is also not a viable choice. Not all men is cut out for medic vocations, similar to that not all women is cut out for nursing.

Previously, we also seen suggestion like streaming women into other civil service, etc, etc. But think of the problems, how it will cost the budget which will indirectly affect the bulk of the population in taxes. How it will cause the admin problems of streaming correct ppl into the correct civil service not as simple as the SAF.

And at the end of the day. We live in a imperfect and unfair world. If men should shoulder the responsibilty of the defending the national then so be it. Why need to complain/whine that women need to serve also. Cool

i really doubt there really have the real taste of army life. Everything is re-planned. There have the freedom, no need to fall in to march to cookhouse and etc.

More ever tekong look more like a chaLET from the outside, to them they would think that it very fun. But to the real guys serving their bmtx there, it hardship.

If all those who hit 18 are to go NS, more chance for foreigners to take our jobs. Some companies are already not happy with males going for re-service as this wastes resources and somebody has to take over them. If females are going for NS and re-service, calculate the disruption for businesses. Foreigners don't have such issue.

Yep - locals should always run the country and rise in ranks, not foreigners.
When foreigners rise in ranks and hold key positions, we can pretty much say Singapore is largely in their hands. When Singapore is in their hands, NS is no longer our tool but theirs. Locals become pretty much "slaves" to the foreigners.

The problem is that whilst the guys spend two years in NS the foreigners get to Uni frst and get to more senior positions earlier.

NS just for the young boys and men is just ridiculous.

Instead of allocating some of the population to serve NS and others watch and enjoy life, they should allocate ALL within that age group to serve NS - no one WATCHES and PARTY while some SACRIFICE.

That means, young boys and girls, local PRs and citizens - all do NS.

That's equality unlike now which is inequality.

the only reason why NS is not implemented for gals is economic factor.

With guys going for NS, the economic workforce is depleted. And if we use women also, then our market will be swarmed with foreigners.

Even wonder why the govt say foreign talents is good, but none as ministers??

yes, there will be many issues when females are recruited into the army, a closer look up north already showed what can happened.

I have no doubts that if the gals focus, they can do as well in the NS as guys.

But I think there they are more useful in the economic sense cause if not, when guys are out of army, their jobs will be already taken by you know who.
