I think the death penalty was implemented to deter hardcore crimes from being committed. It's not really about if you kill someone, we'll kill you in return. So if an idiot is not afraid of death and commits the crime, then we shouldn't pity him if he's executed, since in the 1st place, he already knows what will happen if he's caught.

It's not about being ethical or not. It's a neccesity.

In line with the government's view. Their laws are meant to deter. But I always wonder, if it is meant to deter, why do lawyers always plead for leniency for their clients? If he's not afraid when he commits the crime, why should he be afraid now? Rolling Eyes

Very well said buddy. But the pain of losing one's child is greater than a murderer's parents losing their murderer child. In the 1st place, these murderers' parents are mostly pathetic parents who don't give a sh.it about their childrens' life. Only when their children have committed a crime do they start appearing in court crying and complaining as if their child is innocent. Losers. So I'd suggest the death penalty for the murderer, and also a death penalty for the parents. Just kidding... Mr. Green

Something should be done to look at the way police conduct investigations. The courts should take all confessions with a pinch of salt as they might have been extracted after hours of brutal torture. Rolling Eyes

Yes, it is in man's Law that Death Penalty is deemed justice, but then again, killing is wrong. The perception of right, wrong & acceptable is then Man's idealism, which is in turn as imperfect as we all are.

Hence, I believe man could not be judged by man.

Good question. It's a standard procedure for these criminals to employ a lawyer to defend them. And for these lawyers, they've no choice since it's their job (no matter how much we hate them for defending the criminals). As for the criminals, it's usually a case of being the almighty and not being afraid of death when committing the crime, but turning into worthless cowards when they're caught. Anyway, most of the times these criminals will be found guilty, as the evidences will usually be too overwhelming. It's not really like what we see in the movies I think, that if you're super rich, you'll get away scot-free. The only exception being O.J Simpson's case I think.

Exactly! I think that would be the best punishment but in these times, this kinda punishment will be labelled as rubbish and uncivilised. And those human rights activists or environmentalists or shindler's lists Mr. Green , will be out in full force to protest...again. You can be sure by then the Australians will be the 1st to call us barbarians...or worse. When I was younger, I thought the best punishment for rapists was for them to be sodomised by big, strong and willing gays. Then they'll know how their victims felt.

Well unofficially that is happening I believe. In spore prisons rumors always have it when a rapist is locked up, those criminals in the prison will look down on that person. They believe rape is the worst of all mankind crime to be convicted. Their revenge will be like you describe nite after nite. I believe prison warden close one eye too.

Last time there is one Bedok rapist and later read news he hang himself inside prison. I guess the nite after nite of abuse had scarred him so much to resort to suicide. I believe finally the rapist experience real fear as his victims do. So no worry your concerns are being implemented in an unofficial way IMHO Mr. Green

Seriously? I'm glad there're some rational Australians after all. Anyway, from what i've heard, Vietnamese immigrants are mostly (not all) a problematic lot, especially the youngsters. They've no respect for the country they're in, and they're extremely violent. So i don't see the point of Australians(not all, I understand) feeling mad about Singapore executing Nguyen.
