yes, i have heard too that it is standard practise for them to give freebies! kinda weird you're not getting any. tmr before signing try and ask again maybe they'll give?

as for the package, you will need to consider if you have that 800 more to spend and if you really want what is in the package. 800 for leather seats + others is quite a bargain imho.

the choice is still up to you tho! good luck!

I would say the vios, because I get reminded of my neighbour's vios. Laughing Its got twin exhaust(for a 1.6 huh! ), 5zigen rims, the works lah, but strangely the suspension hasn't been lowered one damn bit.

VIOS originally comes with fabric seats, upgradable to leather seats @ $788, which is less than 2% of the purchase price, so 100% of buyers will definitely opt for it, thats why u never see a VIOS with fabric seats.

fog lamps is not included in the $788... i had to asked for it...

buyers learn how to bargain for freebies, SEs also learn how to say 'no'..

city is trying to target VIOS market with a deceptively low price... nowadays which respectable car don't have air bags, ABS and most imptly alloy rims? How to sell your car the next time? when u add all these so call 'extras' in... you have to pay a hefty premium for it over the VIOS...

remember honda's volume is low(not in top 3) so its pricing strategy is different from toyota's high volume, low margin...

Here are some tips:

Optra Sedan
- Heavier than Vios ,contributing to stability at high speed / cornering but slower acceleration
- Consumes more fuel than Vios but compare well with other 1.6 sedans
- Definitely more spacious than Vios
- Quality of material a bit better than Vios . Take note that both are made in Thailand
- Availability of parts not clear but seems cheaper. Eg. original fog lamp with installation is $150
- Handle humps comfortably, no sweat
- Latest version includes optra station wagon
- Can bargain for freebies

Vios
- Lighter than Optra. You can feel it when cornering. Acceleration is a bit faster.
- Brake more sensitive than Optra
- Rear passenger space a bit cramp. At 1.69m, my head is about 4cm from the roof of the car. Squeezing 3 adults may be a problem.
- Rear seat cannot be folded to increase storage space or to access the boot compartment
- Availability of parts confirmed ok but you must get parts from parallel importers and not BM. Eg. original fog lamp with installation is $280 but parallel importer charged $145
- Handle humps at ok level
- The 2005 version includes a spoiler
- Cannot bargain for freebies

oh damn.... i guess my bargain skills isnt good enough or that its cos im not getting an auto? i placed order for a manual and then the se say not much to make from manual. now that what u have said abt freebies.... i feel so .... Sad wah lau... Axl when u bought ur car, how u manage to ask for fog lamps? i kept asking for it but get the same ans same time round but by then i have concluded the deal....cos i was so tired of asking and keep getting the same old answer... at least the se could have given free fog lamps... still ok to call her up and ask if can have lamps

the jan 2005 coe for cat A cars went down to $18400. bm has its coe rebate at 19k for the classic scheme which i booked the vios under. does that mean i will get back the difference? i could sure use that difference for something else…. please advise.. should i call the se abt it or? and thank you everybody for your comments and contributions…

Last time when I sign some papers that allow my SE (non-BM) to bid, my SE explained a term that only when the COE fells under 16k will there be refund. But I heard BM's cutoff point is higher, better call up you SE to ask.

hi burpman, i also bought manual... those SEs come up with lotsa excuses to escape the freebies giving...

actually the SE is a friend's friend... don't feel bad.. the fog lamps will not illuminate the whole PIE... enjoy ur VIOS!

it is very hard to get any freebies from BM and the attitude of those SE are juz plain bo chup so eben if u were to give the walk off cos no freebies attitude they wun give a damn too cos toyota sells for itself and its in the news that 7 toyotas are sold every commercial hr somemore the prices are at rock bottom nw..if possible ask for cash rebate not for freebies. with cash u can get other things of better value outside eg foglamps are juz $128 OEM + installation compare to $280 at BM..
