700 plus seems like a lot to some of you, for that they make you jump out an aeroplane and when your chute dun open they hold a military ceremony in your honour and give your ma $2000.

read me out to see the schemes SAF hasa to offer, they may even pay for your uni education but i guess you have to pay CMPB a visit and enquire in details about acholarship programs...they may require to interview you several times before approval

I think I had the same amt of guts as you had when I was serving my national service. I think at 18 yrs old there are not many things at that age for anybody who is so young, dun have a career or require to feed any family to really stop and think abt the risk he/she is taking.

Have you ever had a quarrel with a section mate during guard duty and tempers flared and the f.ucker loaded and c.ocked a live weapon and pointed at you?

I have, and I never backed down, but now thinking back at point blank range it was very dangerous and I was a bit reckless and foolhardy then.

yes it actually happened, the next day the percussion cap on the m16 round slightly indented this is the "fingerprint" whenever somebody c.ocks a weapon.

We were marched into our RSM office in smart4 and had hell to explain why the magazine was loaded and the ammo chambered when not supposed to, we even concocted some story together beforehand Laughing

He made me so pissed, then and there I could have "tua" him and told my RSM the truth, created a big WHOO HA attempted murder case and got myself posted out of that unit, but I didn't want to ruin the f.ucker I was already so tired after night guard duty and kanna interrogated some more by RSM that any remaining tempers also died down.

In the end they charged him 7day DB just for c.ocking the weapon with live ammo.

commandoes have to topo in overseas training and learn survival skills.
commandoes do scuba diving.
commandoes do repelling from cliff and heli.
commandoes do parachuting.
commandoes do dun-know-how-many cliq force matches with fbo.
commandoes carry heavy weapons and charge up pengsan hill.
commandoes ippt and soc standards are higher above combat.
commandoes are prone to heatstroke, hand/leg fracture or spinal injuries.

i strongly advise a commando to cover themselves with extra big term insurance.

reservist also jialat.

best to avoid if you're not physically solid.

Operating a vehicle or tank doesn't sound risky at all - many safety procedures?

I dunno abt commando, but I heard siong part for commando unit is 1yr & 2 month super siong training, after relac all the way become enemy units against guardsman or infantry in major exercises.

Personally hokkien peng units training is quite siong also walking and walking non-stop always got so many siao ah pee exercise, NDP siao ah pee, overseas bilateral exercise siao ah pee sianz. Wink

yah, I think if u want to sign on better join some kind of non-combat vocation like maybe aircraft maint technician, I heard in such vocations they take good care of you and your growth also. But also at least after ROD still got rice bowl can join SIA or MRO related companies like Pratt&Withney or General Electric Aviation Services where the pay and career prospects are much better.

My childhood friend was a signed on up to NCO back in the navy, now he ROD with no skills can only become a cook at a small chinese restaurant.

combat skills no use lah.

I also heard latest that nowsadays there's too many NCO to feed that many are forced into early retirement or shuffled to other units, these people v.pitiful when they younger times they pushed people around now most are old men they kanna push by ppl on top of them & lanlan have to swallow their pride because they only know army their whole life but have no skills so no where else to go.

Ask you people is commando training really that siong til alot of people out of course? Or training is not siong at all just standard one? Do i need to exercise that hard now to prepare for the trainings?

For hokkien peng corporal punishment they say touch that tree and come back or rifle overhead double up around the parade sq and come back in 10 sec.

For commando you need to hump a tyre from a 3 tonner veh on your back, run round the parade sq with it and come back in 10 sec. Mr. Green

You want to try I suggest you start with your ma's broom over your head run round your HDB carpark in 10 sec and see whether siong or not, if not siong try a bicycle. Twisted Evil
