my position has been that many so called Buddhists and Taoists
do not really understand their religion. To them, it is mostly
about rites and rituals and the usual religious ideas like doing
good works and be compassionate (which religion doesn't teach u
that?). They're not truly acquainted with the sutras, perhaps as a
result of spending not enuff time in the Dharma and immersing
yourself in the Sangha. To them, superstitious rituals like
worshipping in Kuan Yin Temple is more important than the study of
sutra and attending talks in the Dharma.
As a result, some convert. Like what the interviewed youth on ST
said, xtianity appeals 'cos it is more rational and logical.
In short, you are either very acquainted or not acquainted enuff in
Buddhism or Taoism that's why you convert. Sad to say, these people
belong mostly to the former.
It is unfortunate that forummers like crazy monkey mis-contrue my
position. Apologies here if I confuse some of you.
