The Book Council is a non-profit umbrella body inaugurated in
February 1969 to promote reading and writing and to bring the book
industry and literary community together through social events,
courses, seminars, conferences and author lectures.
We are the organisers of the prestigious Singapore Literature
Prize, the NBDCS Book Awards and the National Reading Month. We
initiated the Festival of Books and Book Fair in 1969 and with Reed
Exhibitions launched the International Library Expo (ILE) in
1998.
Our members comprise a large number of public and private agencies,
representing cultural, educational, library, printing, publishing,
bookselling and writers' associations and institutions. There is
also a core group of individual members who bring with them
knowledge and expertise of their various specialised fields.
