DP, the requirements for registration as a Psychologist in
Singapore are:
1) A Master's degree or Doctorate and;
2) at least 400 hours of supervised practice and;
3) full membership of the Singapore Psychological Society
I finished my doctorate in December 2002, but I went into market
research after that (there's good money in statistics), so paying
about $400 a year to be a registered psychologist in Australia
didn't make any sense. However, by the end of this year it looks
like I'll be back in the psychology business, so I've just dropped
off my application. Besides, I needed to apply within two years, or
my qualifications would need further assessment.
I don't do any of that clinical stuff, though - my D.Psych's in
Organisational/Industrial Psychology. By the end of my undergrad
years, I figured I didn't want to spend my days listening to
someone whine about how daddy didn't love them enough. Besides, why
chase a dysfunctional and jobless client up for fees when you could
just as easily make 2 grand a day?
Don't let me put you off, though - this is just my personal
perspective. I've got plenty of friends who are clinical, neuro and
counselling psychologists, and I respect them for the talented
people they are.
