Getting my family's one soon too.. Just wondering what you guys will advice to coat the new car with... to protect the paintwork and the shine?

y720 SG

just got my silver altis 1.6 last sat. 1st thing i noticed is the higher seat which feels like driving an MPV. like the interior comfort. driving it is also a pleasure. would say very good value for 71k+ car. no regrets. for me, the only shortcoming is no foldable rear seats.

Hi, i am curious to know the maximun speed of our altis, i tried last week can to reach 145 km/h. A bit disappointed, because my previous honda city 1.5 vtec can reach 165km/h max.

What do you think is the maximun speed of our altis? Cause when i was at 145km/h, the car is running out of breath already.

relaxjack SG

Did you press the ECT button? Without the ECT, the engine runs only below 4000 rpm. With the ECT on, I think you could go further than 145 km/h. Never tried it though… read it at the M’sian forum page on altis.

Was told by a tyre shop that Japanese made tyres are softer and less noise suitable for the Jap car weight. Where else the European tyres are harder to cater for the heavier Euro cars. Is it true?

relaxjack SG

The Altis is as heavy as many Conti cars, if not heavier.
Selection of good tyres may depend more on:
- quality of rubber used (some say tyres of same brand made in Europe better than Thai or M'sia in terms road noise. Not so sure abt this)

- wet grip vs road noise (new technology may produce tyres of good grips on wet condition yet with minimal low noise. I read in some forums that Yokohama Aspec DB or AVS is one of them. There may be others)

- durability of tyres (some tyres 'run out' faster than others. Yokohama is also one of them)

- lifespan of tyres (must not exceed 5 years storage. Need to check production date of tyres)

- Road condition (can say Sin roads are generally 'softer' than Malaysian roads)

- of course, price of tyres

Comments from others most welcomed.

I hit abt 155km/h on the NS highway and still can go beyond that speed. See http://www.sgforums.com/?action=thread_display&thread_id=69107&page=3

I have used the Bridegestone Turanza series (Made in Japan) in my preious Corolla and found it fairly quiet even after 30K run. New cars are normally supplied with "boleh ok" type of tyres and don't expect much.

Hi, just wonder if anyone here had just order their Altis recently?Do you still can get any discount, rebate or free stuff upgrade from BM? Rolling Eyes

Qoo-Grape SG

2 mth old Altis...

hit 180 kph at Tuas..

with no ECT....

0-120 kph.. normal accl
120-150.. floor accl..
turn overdrive off at 150 kph.. (treat it as nos... lolz)
hit 180 kph...

y720 SG

spec says top speed is 175. in NS highway, sometimes there is strong headwind this could reduce the speed by at least 20.

is it true that we should not drive the car above 3.5K rpm during the 1st 1k mileage? heard that this is a "run-in" stage for new cars. going above 3.5K could cause premature wear and tear to the engine?

moonraider SG

Use to hear that in the older days. With the Technology and Precise Engineering nowadays, i don't think it's appliable anymore.

moonraider SG

Possible for a Altis1.6 to beat a Honda Vtec/civic/SIR at the traffic light? Or have your encounter other brand of cars? Mitsubishi, Hyundai etc etc.

Please share with us your glory and heroic moments??

Qoo-Grape SG

it’s not the car… its the driver..

The main diff to me actually is there is no MANUAL on the Altius but the previous one has .... i have driven both ....

1. Altius power comes only when you kick the accel abit harder but the previous model no need .... power as and when you like

2.Altuis gives more body roll when taking corner at high speed and over steer earlier then the corolla

3.Altius suspension is BETTER then the previous model ... it absorb more then the other one ...

4.Altius Does NOT have the floating feel when travelling at 160kph but the previous model have ....

Well hope this little bit of info helps

moonraider SG

Care to elaborate further on the "DRIVER" element?

simcity SG

Wait long long. I got problem overtaking a van from start. Anyway it's not a glorious and heroic moment.

y720 SG

ya...first it depends on whether the other driver wants to race with u or not.

bsl SG

Question Why the need to prove anything? Even if altis wins, so what? better not to risk our life and others. let's enjoy the pleasure of driving and live to see the next day and our family.
take care. I have driven for 32 years and had also worked in emergency depts, seen enough. please take heed and enjoy your altis or hondas, whatever.

ronyyk SG

Regard on Run in, i went to check with BM during servicing, they are sure that the altis need only 1 k mileage run (below 3 krpm), After that 1k, you can go to any rpm but not to the redline.

y720 SG

so it is true then. but it is so easy to go beyond 3K rpm during accel. in fact i went past 4K rpm without realising it. i guess i should watch out from now on.
