My sister and her husband just got a 3 room flat for $110K in Seng Kang, will move in this year. Well of cos, it is 3 room, it is much smaller than the one in Boon Keng, but it is the roof over our head we are concerned about right? I dun like alot of things about the government, but as far as this is concerned, this is a pure case of, if you cant afford that, go for an option that you can afford just like my sister and brother in law!

What next? We blame the government because we cannot afford a LCD TV and have to buy a CRT instead? We blame the government because we cannot drive a Porsche and have to buy a Cherry QQ instead?

Of cos I think a 750K flat is obscene! I cannot afford that and most probably will not consider that. But there is always another cheaper option right? Unless you are telling me there aint any other cheaper option and that the government is forcing you into a corner where you got no place to stay.

Yes ,u can buy a 68 m2 flat for S$110,000(like u say) in Singapore
for 99 years lease and just 30--45 min drive to CBD
or 35 mins by trains.What a steal!!

Given the fact that most public organisations are very proned to revenue generation, this new price of $750,000 will set the trend for HDB to strive for more expensive apartments.

more expensive apartments = more revenue.

so, on one hand, prices of living space will skyrocket.

on the other hand, wages must come down to reduce cost of operation, not to mention the lax rules on employment for the citizens.

Guess who will be the one that will be caught in the middle of these two?

'Ulu' area in S'pore are places that is far from town..... most likely near the 'border'.... Woodlands comes to mind. Very Happy

Firstly, the cost of a condo in the area will cost much more
Anyway you will be paying more for the view than anything else
This cost also includes the fixtures and aircon which the flat is coming with

One thing though, I think the 8k pay ceiling is bullshit
You will have to eat grass if you earn less than 8k and buy the flat
And ppl who can afford it don't qualify for it Laughing

Unfortunatly, you can only choose between two markets: private or HDB.

The margin is pretty clear. So unless you live on a fat pay cheque, first timers will start their life with a HDB flat, which HDB has claimed are built on a subsidy.

This urban myth has been dispelled in a letter to the forum when it was clarified that the flats were in fact sold at a 'discount' and not at a 'subsidy', a fact which HDB utterly failed to rebutt.

HDB had the opportunity to publish the building and infrastructure costs to prove to residents the supposed 'subsidy' on two counts, once when challenged by the oppposition during the last elections (this was directed solely at Mah Bow Tan) and again when the letter to the ST forum was published.

On both occasions, they chose instead to deny the public access to the figures; this served only to reinforce the FACT that HDB flats are sold at a 'discount'.

Is it any wonder why malcontent over ministerial double pay rise is widespread? Where do you think they're pulling in the money from? Mr. Green

The government has been and is still saying all HDB flats are heavily subsidized!!! At $700K, I can't see how it is being subsidized!! Evil or Very Mad Many years ago, they promised that all Singaporean will have a roof over our head. I was young and was very proud of our government ... now ? With this kind of pricing, how to afford ? I mean everone will want a better design and location but to price along the private property ? I cannot understand ....

Why are we still comparing prices of the most expensive of HDB flats? Why not compare with the most expensive of condos?

$750k is indeed high. Even a small 2nd hand 5 rm flat at Holland V costs $570k now, and without lift at every floor too. But then again, there are many other factors determining the price. Is it reasonable to compare the maximum price of HDB with the average price of condos?
