Actually there is a local reporter who has written against the junta. MM Lee has already lablled the junta as hopeless cause by losses made by local hotelier.

USA pressure him to go back to myanmar immediately again for talks, but now the joker is on a 6-nation ASEAN tour to "gather support" and "create the right political atmosphere" before going back to Yangon in mid-Nov.

so far, this joker has visited Thailand and Malaysia, and all gave lame excuses, obviously trying to push the buck around, and Gambari in turn, says the resposibility lies with ASEAN to resolve this....blah x 3.....

USA has pledged some hundreds of thousands of dollars to fund the Myanmar anti-junta groups....maybe the latter will use them to buy arms!!!!

japan has cancelled the major aid packages to myanmar and europe / usa has further imposed sanctions on the myanmar military.

and what has our own ASEAN folks done so far, besides giving oh-so-inspiring speeches and issuing a mountain of condemnation letters?

What is a sheep ?

It is the usual animal with four legs with hooves, a head that has not too much of an intelligent grey matters, two eyes and ears, a mouth that feeds incessantly on grass and excrete just as much, and in the process grow enough hair that is known as 'wool' that mankind has found some use.

A sheep is one of the few animals suited for domestication due to its docile, obedient and unquestioning nature that allows it to be easily managed for the benefit of some more intelligent beings.

Unfortunately, there remains some 'Black Sheep' that prefer to stand out from the rest of the flock, and are rejected by the rest of the flock - not for its uniqueness in color but for its flaws that are of no benefit to the flock nor to anyone else.

Sadly, by his remarks made - MM Lee seems more concerned with his own reputation being sullied by the behaviour of the military junta - in creating economic problems to the investors who had listened to him by investing in Myanmar, then being concerned with the aspirations of the Myanmar Citizens to change their political landscape that allows themselves to take charge of their own future.

Can ASEAN afford to cut all lines of communication and all possible leverage that it may have in continuing to engage the Myanmar Military Junta ?

The pulls in the different direction by the various Political Leaders of all the ASEAN member countries will result in ASEAN being largely an ineffective organisation to handle the problems in one their own member state.

Can they even agree on any solution to help the Myanmar Citizens to achieve a more open society that allow the Citizens to take charge of their own lives ?

Any such positive development in Myanmar will backfire and have repercussions on the imagination of citizens having similar governments that suppress their Citizens in a closed political society.

Such ASEAN countries will include Singapore, Vietnam, and Laos - where the supremacy of a domineering Single Political Party in each country continue to exist through ensuring its own political survival, by preventing the Citizens from having meaningful alternative political options.

Surely, MM Lee and his MIW clones in Government know only too well the repercussion of ASEAN intervention in the domestic politics of one of their member state.

The next step in ASEAN evolution will be to establish an ASEAN Regional Court of Justice - similar to the International Court of Justice in Europe - in which rogue governments can be taken to task by the Citizens.

Well maybe you should ask what it takes for the Junta to reliquish their power. Thai Gen provide a good example of less killing transition. by taking off their uniform.

if you cut all lines of communication at the political level that means you reach the end of the line. Unless you willing to serve SAF and have a few tour in Myanmar if not i suggest you keep the phone line open.

ASEAN seek peaceful stabilities co-exist not confronting and War in this region. It is willing to accept an authoritarin regime so long as it does not distablized the region. It believe that no leader is going to stay there for ever.
but everyone arms to the teeth. so the minute 1 country pull out a knife the neighbour country pull out its M16, the next pull out its SU and follow by F-15...Than follow by SS missile.

So the answer lies in more trade and increase income level of its citizen, better educate its people so generation to come it transform the society and gov.
