I stayed in a four room flat when I got married, later sold it with a good profit to upgrade to a condo, then later a landed property.

Start where you are comfortable, then upgrade when the market is good. You are young, you have the time to wait. Now its time for the older Singaporeans to benefit from some capital gain in properties.

personally, i think hdb flats do not justify sky high prices, not forgetting the amount of interest paid at the end of 10 or 15 years. ie unless you are flushed with cash and have a really compelling reason to stay there.

1.prices of HDB 90 % determined by market force.
Small property is fact of life here.

Staying in any country is a package.
Dunt expect a 50 cent ice cream in Raffles Hotel.

So,SG is a premium country,u have to pay high price,
that is called value for money.

Hmm - affordable? But wait, didn't lionnoisy pronounce that prices were driven by market forces? HDB must have failed miserably then.

Looking at their vision raises another issue: does building communities involve dictating who can and cannot buy a certain flat in a certain area?

I think it is not worth buying HDB cause the price can enable a local to buy a bigger house in other countries.

agree, I maid went home, bought a piece of land, built a house only after working two years in Singapore. You can even buy a bungalow in Malaysia or Thailand for S$500,000. Not many locals can buy big houses in those countries, but many Singaporeans who own HDB flats can do that.

Got this accountant friend who earns RM$20,000 a month and stays in a RM$300,000 3 storey terrace in KL. 3 cars too..... 2 second hand cars for his son and wife and a nice car for himself.

That's enjoyment of life without the heavy loans.

my indian worker worked 6 years in Singapore, went home bought a land for farming, built a house and still have some saving to do small business, on the contrary, I work 20 years, still have housing debt, can't afford a car, no saving in bank, every time take salary, deduct here and there, left $250 for breakfast, lunch, not even have extra to buy 4D, u call this first world country ? I prefer to be that indian worker!!!!

Yes everything is all good in Singapore ,the premium country.

Before you start stating that Singapore is the best country in the world , think of the image that you are putting forward for her. Never mind your grammar mistakes ( I can't keep a count of it anymore). Your arguments are all one-track minded and your main activities are based on "cut and paste" documents - which goes to show you cannot think critically at all. You are really doing a great job of shaming Singapore's PREMIUM education system. SHAME ON YOU!

RM300,000 is only S$136,500 and you should not need to pay in total more than S$200,000 for the house and the cars. Sell off you HDB 4 or 5 room, plus your CPF, you should have more than that.

If you are making S$20,000, I will be surprised you can't afford a million dollars house or apartment in Singapore. Off the prime districts, this was possible even last year, but only one car.

Of course now may be a little difficult.

In contrast, when I spent two weeks in Shanghai on a business trip - where I had many opportunities to come into contact with students, teachers and those connected with tourism - I found that most of them were putting in a great deal of effort to speak English well, not only in full comprehensible sentences, but also with correct pronunciation, intonation and style.
