lionnoisy SG He was the 4 th Aussie executed in the past 20 years.Nguyen is the first Australian to be executed since Michael McAuliffe was hanged in Malaysia in 1993 on drugs charges and only the fourth since 1986 when heroin couriers Kevin Barlow and Brian Chambers were hanged in Malaysia, an incident which strained relations between the countries for years.

cornyfish2000 SG How do you know the drug problem in Japan is low? And are you sure they don't have the death penalty for drug trafficking?
lionnoisy SG Death convicts in Spore match popualtion mix. Around 420 prisoners were sent to the gallows between 1991 and 2004, Amnesty said. Singapore's home affairs ministry said 66 Singaporeans and 22 foreigners have been executed between 2001 and September 2005.Thats is one quarter is foreigner. Pop. mix. Spore citizens 3,100,000 PR...................... 350,000 other foreigners 800,000 total 4.25 million
cornyfish2000 SG What if she clings on to her son and refuses to let go? Who would then have the heart to forcibly seperate mother and son? I think it's after careful consideration of such factors that the Prisons Department rejected the request.

Chin Eng SG This is the precise response I am looking for. Whatever reason it is that the Singapore society has relatively low crime, it is not because of education, social or cultural norms, or civic mindedness.. it is because of the tough deterent and the guts to carry the deterent through by the government. Note that the law for carrying drugs while is openly addressed to all, it is primarily focussed on people coming into our borders (even for a minute). No death sentence has to be carried out if everyone cooperates with the law.
lionnoisy SG His twin brother was charged with drugs. Nguyen had borrowed $25,000 from a friend to cover his twin brother Khoa's legal fees from affray and drug charges three years earlier. He had also taken responsibility for another $12,000 loan his brother had taken out, and had repaid $4000.
Chin Eng SG Precisely. If force is used in this situation, then we will be seen lagi without compassion at all.
Chin Eng SG I don't think they have the death penalty for anything. I am sure though their drug problem - which is related to vice and the underworld - is not low. One time I was there, I was adviced to stay away from a certain business district after 6 pm. That was odd 'cos it was near to one of the bigger Takashimaya store. I was told by my colleagues that after dark, underworld activity is rampant.
sbst275 SG Some Australians said he should be tried at Australia Aren't they being crazy? It was no their law enforcement agency that caught him Or that murder case, since he is a PR there, so that means he should be tried there as well?
cornyfish2000 SG Oh yes they do. In fact i think they practice the 'short drop' method, where the prisoner is actually strangled to death at the end of the rope. And the condemned prisoners are not told of the execution date until the very day of the execution. Their families are only notified of the execution after the punishment has been carried out. Just run a Google search on death penalty in japan.. This was the first one i found: http://www.jca.apc.org/stop-shikei/epamph/dpinjapan_e.html

Thus, that makes law important.
Nelstar SG You don't think does not mean it does not exist. That sums up that u make biased unbased assumptions without factual evidence.
lionnoisy SG The drug street value A$1.3 million. "I've got a couple of mates like that and they're only 15 and they're injecting and you'll find them younger." Thirty days ago, the 19-year-old vowed to stop "chasing the dragon" and quit the drug Nguyen Tuong Van was trying to smuggle from Singapore. But when The Daily Telegraph found her in a park in Redfern yesterday, she had just injected her latest fix. 2. This prove 1 out of 1 class of 40 Aussie students is heroin addict, not to mention the heart breaking figures of taking other soft drugs.
