Hi mr BusAnalyser, yes first bus for sbs333 must be late already. So 2nd bus still has to leave as it is scheduled on time. It is not easy to withdraw the bus driver on duty at the very last minute for the 2nd bus. Moreover, along the journey, there may be too many people waiting at the bus stops. So when the 2 buses come together, some will choose bus 1 while some choose bus 2. You cannot expect people all flock to bus 1 as people are able to check the bus arrival timings through apps and they will know whether that bus service is being short-changed if it runs 1 bus lesser than normal. People will not understand that the first bus was late. Rather they will think of it as being irregular and point the finger at sbs transit for reducing the frequency if 1 bus is short. Cheers

Ok if it is a service like 334 - completely agree. A service like 333 where am peak loading is 40-50 pax (on the higher side), bunching should be totally avoided. The easy way out would be since it was am peak to send the 2nd 333 bus off service from jurong townhall, east ave 1 to st 32 and do downroute from there instead of doing whole route. This way would have made up for the delay of first bus also. We need more creative ways of deployment by ground staff.

Most probably the runtime pattern of 333..Traffic light timings and condition also play a part.If they run 17 mins per bus during off peak scared pax complain

Ok agree but i think they are not that reactive enough to every scenario that occurs. In short, they are not very spontaneous. They will just let it go and hope the 2 buses will settle the crowds along the routes and they will even out themselves. This is only possible if the 2 bus captains cooperate.

You know I have seen many such situations especially with HGDEP BCs on sv 147, 51 where 2 DDs will be back to back. The DD behind will not overtake the DD in front. The first bus is late, keeps getting further delayed. The BC behind keeps 1 bus in between. Front bus takes all the load. Bus behind goes empty. Does not help pax, nor operator.

4 cases today:

1. Service 307. Time was 11am at blk 702 (CCK DR) bus stop. SMB209B bunch with SMB213M after 20 mins wait...next bus was SMB212R, which was opposite, meaning, will take at least 15 mins to reach Blk 702 stop...

2. Service 241. Time was 425pm at pioneer MRT towards Boon Lay. 3 buses together. SBS3299L, SBS3660B and another wright.

3. Service 199. Time was 440pm at junction of Nanyang Ave and Jln Bahar towards Boon Lay. SBS2786D and SBS3243Y

4. Service 975. Time was 455pm at blk 464 (CCK AVE 3) bus stop towards BPJ. SMB3077U (Fully seated) and TIB610Y (Packed to the door)

Hi mr busanalyser, yes this is very normal. Sbs transit expects bus drivers to help smoothen the crowd. In actual practise, bus drivers will not do anything extra. They will rather let it flow. Maybe because they are tired after such a long journey. Or maybe they dont care.

My view on SBS Transit and SMRT services which have been reported with much bunching up incidents:

I think 190 and 961 are okay... Not as much bunching up as before. Must say SMRT is improving the frequency manangement for both services... However, 851 still have bunching up sometimes, which is quite normal and there is somehow better control on the frequency now... For SBS Transit, 160 and 170 frequency is worst, very irregular due to WDL checkpoint... 51 is okay, now lesser chances of bunching up, despite the frequency.

851's deployment has to do with the Bendy and OC departing within a few minutes of each other at the terminating due to passenger loading....

Will be solved when WAB bendy/DDs come in

Exactly..for 179 i think i post before..at least 2 occurrence of >7 buses bunch together...

Got one time i waited at Inno Centre for about 25 mins and 8 service 179/179A came together..queueing up like taxis queueing up at taxi stand like that....

851 is very useful when MRT train start to give problem. like 147 it run almost parallel to the mrt line. Also it go to many area where many there is high demand of old forks who go to rochor area

Actually 851 is different from 147. 851 does not really run parallel to MRT. After YCK it just runs via Upper Thomson/Thomson and only meets NSL again at Novena. In spite of MRT operation, 851 will have a significant loading.

2. 172: 2 buses leaving Boon Lay int together (TIB715D on 172S104 and SMB58U on 172PM07). Time: 5.50pm

3. 181: 2 buses bunch together at Blk 271A bus stop (SBS6069P and SBS6072D) Time: 6pm

4. 188: 2 buses entering CCK int together (TIB610Y and TIB1082P) Time: 6.30pm
