Agreed... reading what the experts say is the starting point... for you to seriously consider the best way to bring up your children. If as parents you do not even want to learn what the experts say and cling on to your own beliefs and delusions, that is very alarming...

You've brought up valid and useful points.

What I don't understand is your resistance to other people contributing and sharing their opinions. Most times they're not refuting your statements, merely just adding and extrapolating from there. This process is called a discussion. There's no need to go on the attack. At the end of it all nobody needs to change anybody's minds about anything, it's just a sharing of ideas.

this is exactly what's happening all along. I have never doubted mr yap's intellectually capability. the only problem with andrew is that he is unable to accept (note the word is ACCEPT not AGREE) other people's point of view. to compound the issue, he will end up using words like delusional, merely because another person takes another viewpoint (not even necessarily going against Andrew's point of view) AND he starts stuffing words into other people's mouth.

For me, I only said that the problem lies with people who read experts and use the techiques WHOLESALE. I think it is quite conclusive that, in the last few posts, the general consensus is that while expert opinions are good, there is a large degree of adaptation and consideration.

When people start putting the experts down... I don't think that is acceptable... and yes I have to attack their POV. What are they suggesting? That people should not refer to expert advice? Then what? People should based their parenting on people's own beliefs and delusions in their own heads?

but but but... if the issue is: Parents should refer to experts when raising children, then the issue is settled, the answer is yes.

so maybe you can decide what the issue is now, bearing in mind that the title is about parenting skills of the eastern and the western folks....

.... next time hor, start topic, please be very clear hor.... not many of us are as intelligent as you are hor... and cannot read between the lines.

.... but hor.... even Primary school students are taught to write according to the topic and as far as I can tell, out-of-topic essays sure kenna left right center one, not to mention - fail!

My personal opinion:

Eastern - promotes family cohesiveness, emphasize on family unity, filial piety etc

Western - promotes independence, individual rights, earlier empty nest syndrome.

.... of course, TS reserve the right to say that this is not what he wants to talk about.... Laughing

when i am confused, i asked for clarification,

just go through the 4 pages and show me where i had used an offensive term on you. emphasis in case you conveniently miss this point.

the one and only one that had used offensive term is you - anyone disagreeing with you is inevitably labelled as "delusional"

very simple what, like the other thread, i asked you where i had offended and insulted you, but you are not able to do so..... the opposite however is true.... almost without fail you'd used "belief and delusional" on anyone disagreeing with you.
