Actually Bedok interchange is doing fine with bendys on 854. As long as you dont have too many coming in at a go. Which really never happens on 854. So no hurry. Bendy slots are probably reduced due to shortages for bendys and excessive A22s lying around. For now upgrade SD to DD and keeping bendys is best to increase capacity. Hoping to convert 14 bendy duties is too ambitious... you gotta wait for 2nd production batch which will probably come in 2017 or late 2016. Anyway bendys are there to stay on 854 as long as AMDEP does partial control. WLDEP will nvr full control 854.

Wldep will never ever full control 854 even though its 9 slots are all DDs..Distance for off service to Bedok is just far compared to Amdep.But again Amdep cant fully control Yishun due to the size of the depot..How long are they gonna park at Yishun Int & Lor 1 Geylang?Unless if they win the Seletar Depot contract then things will change for sure..

The only option is they must control all the Yishun feeders with bendy is to reduce their partial duties with other depot.

Hmm LTA is the governing body of Land transport. The PTOs CANNOT buy buses without LTA approval be it with or without bus contracting model. The 40 A24s were definitely bought under LTA approval. LTA could have just said no to SMRT if it wanted, SMRT has to go by governing rules. Once again let me remind you SMRT is owned by Temasek Holdings and I dont need to mention who owns Temasek holdings. You wont see LTA letting SMRT buy now and ask it to fly kite in future.

The fact that Bendys in future will not be used like they are used today and LTA doesnt want to increase the bendy population is true but you cant say bendys will not be used future. They cant buy new bendys now without retiring the older O405Gs. SBST is not going to go out of its comfort zone and buy bendys now and LTA wont see a need to force it upon SBST to use bendys now when they are going to take over the fleet in future. I believe LTA will be objective and buy the right type of buses in future when they have more depots and parking space. Wherever can use DD, LTA will surely choose DDs. But there are bound to be services that are more suited for bendy and services that cannot use DDs. We will see what LTA does in future - but the fact is LTA cant do much now with its limited depot resources and LTA governs purchase of new bus models even now be they BSEP or non-BSEP.

And FYI, there are close to 150 DD units that will retire after 2017 (Batch 3 VO, VSO and Tridents)

There will still be trunk services that experience high demand even when the DTL/TEL/CRL/JRL are operational. MRT lines cannot totally take over the roles of existing bus services.

And with train service disruptions becoming more and more frequent nowadays, it is good to leave some trunk services which does not duplicate the MRT excessively around running as backups. High capacity buses need not be deployed for such routes on normal days, but when a train disruption occurs, high cap buses can be pulled to these semi-duplicating trunk routes to help out with the sudden increases in demand.

All the time you kept talking about failure of DDs on 964 I thought you take daily. Now I read that you observe at WRI. Ofcourse WRI is not the peak loading for 964, Admiralty is. Most MRT goers will board/alight at Admiralty and that's where you see even the bendies packed to door. At WRI, even bendies have ok loading because so many options to go along ave 7.

It depends how routes are planned. For instance, if a person lives along Tampines Ave 5 and works at Macpherson road, he will still prefer to take sv 65 than take bus or walk to MRT, take DTL3 and then again walk/bus from Mattar or Geylang Bahru.

So really depends how buses provide more point to point service. MRT lines and buses should complement each other, and not duplicate.

I am just merely saying Temasek Holdings (owners of SMRT) are not stupid. You wont expect them to be so short-sighted to just buy some 40 A24s for fun now and having a problem in 6-7years later. They are no small players in the market. They would have evaluated the decision thoroughly before making it.

those A24 other than use for normal feeder also use in MRT train problems. but only 40 i think it too less should at 100. LTA should look into building BRT service for new HDB towns and upgrade inter town services. mean have bus lanes where no other transport can enter and the bus can skip traffic light at the main roads. LRT is no the right transport for HDB town feeder service.

Yes but some services like 302, 804, 806, 812, 900, 901, 903, 911, 912, 913 should strictly have full bendy fleet. Its irritating when they spam rigids on these super high loading services.

Also from these, we have to note that the loading on 804, 806, 900, 901, 911, 912 will continue to increase on account of new BTO flats and condos being built and already TOP in near future. Especially 804, 806, 911, 912 I do not know how they are going to cope with the loading once the massive BTOs/condos in the vicinity are about to TOP.

I guess since AMDEP will take the A24s mostly, Yishun feeders will get them. Some of the balance might go over to WLDEP and KJDEP to be used on WDL and CCK feeders. Probably SMRT will deploy in a way that will allow the greatest number of feeders to gain WAB status. I guess it will be pretty inevitable for SDs not to appear on feeders, especially when SMRT purchased so many A22s. As long as you dont have too many SDs (like the case on 811 now), I think we are still pretty ok with a 70-30 ratio (30 referring to SDs) if frequency is good.

... the thing is 997A is the only 3-axle bus. at 14.5m, it allows more pax then a regular 11.8m buses. the problem with the extra long bus is space and flexibility. if you are saying the bendies at 18m occupies more space, then why is there a big issue when SBS tried to sell 997A over 998Y and 999U?

A 14.8m SD is definitely good BUT I think the 14.8m SD will not work in singapore roads because of its big turning radius. The bendy is easier to turn and thats why any bus longer than 11.8m for Singapore has to be articulated. I believe the 14.8m has a bigger turning radius than even our DDs. The 14.8m SD can work in Europe because their roads aint as congested as ours and the bus can just eat more space for a turn.

Also 997A's design was with 2 doors. A 14.8m SD in Europe usually has 3 doors which is better. But I would say for Singapore's loading, a bendy is better than a 14.8m SD because the extra 3m length of a bendy defintely gives room for alot more people and its more flexible to our congested narrow roads.

I wouldnt like to see 302, 804, 806, 812, 900, 901, 903, 911, 912 in the 70-30 ratio. If the loading is super high, what justifies the 70-30. Do you see such 70-30 on high loading SBST feeders like 241 and 334? No. I think 1 or 2 rigids ok. not more than that.
