What is a RAG?
a Red Amber Green (RAG) was installed at Bishan around five
years ago.
an extract of
the press relase from LTA:
The RAG
traffic signals will be installed to
control right
turning movement from Bishan Road into Bishan
Street 22, so as to further enhance road safety at
this junction.
A lighted red arrow is a stop signal for motorists turning
right, while a lighted amber arrow indicates that motorists must
get ready to stop. A lighted green arrow indicates that motorists
can proceed to turn right.
In conjunction with this installation, an additional
right-turning lane will be created to ease traffic flow of
right-turning vehicles along Bishan Road.

The
Red-Amber-Green (RAG) arrow signal, on the other
hand, will not
allow motorists to make the right turn, even when there is no
oncoming traffic and pedestrians crossing the road.
They are thus selectively implemented at junctions where safety is a
concern such as at locations where the motorists’ view is
obstructed, at intersections near road bends or at major
intersections where right turning traffic does not have a good view
of oncoming traffic.
