I believes that at the beginning the interchange they
have taken consideration on the Boon Lay MRT extension and Joo
Koon Terminal and thus the smaller size since there will be less
services in Boon Lay Int should Joo Koon Terminal is opened and
Jurong Industrial Area/Tuas rationalisation is being carried
out.
IMO the main mistake they make is failure to carry out Jurong
industrial Area/Tuas rationalisation and the opening of Joo Koon
Terminal on time. Especially when it have been almost 10 months
since the opening of BLE and till now still no signs for Joo koon
Term.
The problem is, eventually they project Jurong West alone to have
92,000 units vs 69,000 right now (The remaining would mostly come
from the part where 181 & 185 currently serves). Surely more
buses would be needed too. Buses if to think of it, they're
evergreen. Another issue to factor in is NTU's load
Neither can Joo Koon stabilise everything, no matter how nice e
names goes w/ integrated bus hub it's still a small bus stop
boarding point. It's not going to be possible to crashload it
either.
As for the LTA cramping everything, it's not true. They sold the
land to private developers, so you sure LTA has a say in how much
space should be allocated for the interchange? The land belongs to
the private developer alrdy.
To them, rental receipt profit comes 1st. Bus Int wun generate
revenue for them although many dun see tis point - if public tpt
facilities are good, more ppl would come compared to the developer
restricting themselves based on the car park space
