From LTA's website, I downloaded this article which gives the exact height measurement of all overhead structures (up to 2002 I think). All current structures to be built must have a height Clearance of 5.4 metres.

From the article:-
{
D-GAN - Directional Gantries
EMAS - EMAS Gantries
ERP - ERP Gantries
FLY - Flyovers
H-GAN - Height Gantries
KTM - KTM Railway Bridges
LINK - Overhead Linkways
LRT - LRT Viaducts
MRT - MRT Viaducts
POB - Pedestrian Overhead Bridges
VUP - Vehicle Underpasses

The maximum headroom measurements in the list are actual heights of the
overhead structures measured from the road surface to the lowest point of the
underside of the structure. The lowest point of each structure is marked by a
red triangle on the underside of the structure.

In the table(extracted below), the height limits are:-

I live at Bedok South Road, and takes Service 229 twice a day, 6 days a week to go to work. And no, Service 229 does not call at Bedok South Ave 1.

FYI, the route is as follows;
Bedok Interchange, Chai Chee St, Chai Chee Rd, New Upp Changi Rd, Bedok South Rd, Bedok South Ave 3, Upp East Coast Rd, Bedok South Rd, New Upp Changi Rd, Chai Chee Rd, Chai Chee St, Bedok Interchange.

FYI again, the address for the Lions Home For The Elders is:
487 Bedok South Avenue 2

Does that mean Service 229 calls at Bedok South Ave 2? No.

The address of the landmarks does not determine anything with regards to the route of the service, in this case. The only services that calls at bus stops along Bedok South Ave 1 is SBST 12, 31, 196, 197, SMRT 853 and CSS 608.

Case closed.

mercedes_hispano SG

Service 48 as the 3rd service to go up the Sheares Bridge! Very Happy Hope they supply superbuses in time to come. So cool!

Superbus SG

Fourth to be exact - SBST 30, 36 and Express 518.

tranquilice SG

You define 4 to 5 km as close to Bedok Town Centre but I don't.

Service 229 does not go to Bedok South Ave 1.

I repeat, the stretch of Bedok South Ave 1 between Marine Parade Rd and Upp East Coast Rd, which services 31, 48, 196, 197 and 853 pass thru, is not in Bedok Town. That's called Upper East Coast.

tranquilice SG

These companies addresses are along Bedok South Ave 1 doesn't mean service 229 ply Bedok South Ave 1! Rolling Eyes Laughing

Please read the previous posts why DDs cannot be used. Wink

tranquilice SG

I suggest service 48 to serve Bedok South via Bedok South Ave 3, Bedok South Rd and Bedok South Ave 1, as currently there’s no direct link to Marine Parade from Bedok South (housing estate area). I doubt many passengers will take service 48 along Upp East Coast Rd.

Far from being closed, one is presented with an interesting conundrum. The official address, the street directories all indicate that the buildings Panasonic and Fujitec are in Bedok South Ave 1. But the bus stops located just outside the compounds cannot possibly be in Bedok South Ave 1, insist the detractors Superbus and Tranquilice.

So I guess if one steps into those buildings, one is in Bedok South Ave 1, and if one steps out of the building, one is in Bedok South only. There must be an invisible demarcation separating Bedok South Ave 1 and Bedok South, and Fujitec and Panasonic are built on it. That appears to be the only logical explanation.

I cannot think of any alternative that is logical to say about the Lions Home located in Bedok South Ave. 2. According to Superbus, even though the address is Bedok South Ave 2, and SBST229 calls at the stop outside the Lions Home, SBST229 still does NOT go to Bedok South Ave 2. Instead, SBST229 only goes to the Lions Home, nevermind what the address is. Very logical.

So if anyone wishes to take a taxi/bus to the Lions Home, avoid telling the driver it is located at Bedok South Ave 2, despite that being its official address in the street directory. What is one to say then? Gawd knows, but if you wish not to piss off Superbus, you know what NOT to say.

Does anyone see the ironies here or is it just me? So the stretch of Bedok South Ave 1 is not in Bedok Town even though the street directory labels all residential estates there as part of Bedok, example HDB-Bedok.
I guess your authority over Singapores topography is greater than that of the government authorities, and the people/town planners who are involved in creating maps.

So the stretch of Bedok South Ave 1 is. called Upper East Coast. This particular stretch.why do you refer to it as that stretch of Bedok South Ave 1 then?
And if its called Upper East Coast, is this reflected in the street directory?
Is it just you who calls it Upper East Coast? Or should the rest of Singapore follow your example, nevermind what the street directory labels that stretch oferr.road.

As for whether you think 4-5km is considered a long OR short distancewell, everyone is entitled to their opinion I guess. Purely subjective.
Some people think walking 100 metres to their neighbourhood 7-11 is far, or that a destination only one bus stop away is VERY far. So what I can say?

Does SBST229 pass by Bedok South Ave 1? See my reply to Superbus above to avoid repetition.
Shocked

Superbus SG

If that's the case, the route planners of SBST must have made a fatal mistake not to include Bedok South Ave 1 in the routes of SBST 38 and 229.

Hmmm, maybe SBST, SMRTB or Transitlink should only use lampposts ID nos as landmark indicators instead of using buildings whose addresses are sometimes not along the route of the bus services.

First time I've heard this case being brought up. I just don't know whether to laugh at this or what.

And no, no one's pissing me off. Thank you.

Superbus SG

Which comes to mind roads such as Changi Rd, New Upp Changi Rd, Tampines Rd, Punggol Rd, Kallang Rd, Commonwealth Ave/West and even the expressways!

Does Changi Rd necessarily be at Changi? I can be near Telok Kurau even if I'm along Changi Rd.

Does Tampines Rd necessarily be at Tampines? I can be near Upp Serangoon even if I'm along Tampines Rd.

Does Punggol Rd necessarily be at Punggol? I can be at Sengkang even if I'm along Punggol Rd.

Does Kallang Rd necessarily be at Kallang? I can be near Lavender MRT even if I'm along Kallang Rd.

Does Commonwealth Ave West necessarily be at Commonwealth? I can be at Clementi even if I'm along Commonwealth Ave West.

Does Bukit Timah Expressway necessarily be at Bukit Timah? I'm sure it by passes Woodlands and Mandai at some point.

Does Seletar Expressway necessarily be at Seletar? I'm also sure it bypasses Lentor, Upp Thomson, Mandai and Woodlands at some point.

I also recall certain long roads in the street directory which is bisected into two, such as Changi Rd (from Siglap Rd to Still Rd) and Changi Rd (from Still Rd to Geylang Rd).

Let's ponder, shall we?

Oh yes, I take offence in you calling me a detractor. What started out as a healthy discussion on this issue has lead you to calling names on people who disagrees with you. AFAIK, I did not purposely do anything like that. So please do take note of the limitations here.

NineGrains SG

I really *do* dread confrontations. Your examples are valid- but they follow an old line of argument which I addressed earlier on 29 June at 9:11am. (You may wish to check that post.) This was what I said:

"Road/building names in Singapore often do not make any immediate sense to the onlooker for various (historical)reasons. Hence Holland Road is nowhere near/in the Netherlands, Tampines Home is in Thomson Road *and* West Coast Road, but not Tampines Road..and so on. "

Another contribution from Iveco on the same day pointed out more road name disparities:

"Tampines Rd links TAM/PSR with HGN via PLAB rear entrance. Jurong Rd used to extend up to Bt Timah. Woodlands Rd stretches from the Causeway down to BPJ area. Part of AMK Ave 3 belongs to S'goon town. Only a small portion of these roads belong to the area they are named after."

If you wish to ignore the official address of those buildings, or the street directory, or the fact that these places are close enough to Bedok Central that they fit on the same page of the map.....so be it. In this instance, it is not one of those 'is Changi Road necessarily in Changi' type of situation.

As for the "detractor" bit, I am not sure why it is offensive to you. It is not a bad word or a 4-letter crudity. (Perhaps you may wish to check the lexical meaning in a dictionary.) It is like addressing someone who teaches for a living, a 'Teacher', and then accused of name-calling and hateful. Huh? Where is the sense in that?

I was merely being factual by stating you detract the value of this "discussion". What sort of discussion can there be, if you unilaterally say your piece for the first time, conclude that it is the final word on the matter, and then take away the right of reply by attempting to 'close' it there and then?

By this, you imply that other people's opinions have little value, are worthless, and not worth reading. Hence, there is no point in 'discussing' it anymore- only 'case closed'.

So now you see why 'detractor' is appropriate in this context....and in any context, hardly a crude word. It is barely in the same league as other more colourful names I can think of.

But I digress really, and only wish to stick to bus related subjects.

Call this contentious stretch Bedok South (or Upper East Coast as Tranquilice says) or Ang Mo Kio Ave 17 or Pungol East Gardens.... whatever pleases you. My bottomline is that I used the same road name the street directory indicated. If you insist Fujitec and Panasonic are not on Bedok South Ave 1, despite all official indications, you will be pleased that I have taken note. Can't guarantee if the rest of Singapore agrees though.

With that, I conclude my opinion on this matter, and will henceforth hold my peace. Rolling Eyes
