Reservist NSman called up for first ICT at age 36!

last SG · 2006-09-06T21:30:00+00:00

How is he at blame for not...for what again? The blame lies squarely on the SAF for not calling him up earlier. I think his reservist unit needs a good talk...

Ponders SG

I just hope you all know that my 5-tonner and PWC info is just for entertainment purposes.

I think Mindef is audited by the Auditor-General, not an independant private company.

Can ppl confirm this?

Because there was a period of few years where Auditor General reports to the public that Mindef has the highest discrepancy amongst all Government body.

I think this particular Auditor General have been extrajudicially managed.

Xcert SG

well...all things have implications... Laughing Mr. Green

Xcert SG

I ORD in end-1999...now 2006....about 6 years liao...opps

KoolKool SG

Is there a need to complete 10 ICTs ? just do 4, maybe 2, if he can find some valid excuses. Some NSmen will obviously be more useful than others, but everybody needs to clock time.

blowfish SG

Then how? turn yrself in?

KoolKool SG

Turn yourself in to who ?? MINDEF ?? Which department ?? Unit ??

I think it is more effective writing to Straits Times forum.

You don't have to find out your unit, which department to call and who to speak to. Everything will be done for you.

Xcert SG

still studying...anyway C2L3 Perm...dunno need to do reservist or not... Laughing Mr. Green

turn myself in?dunno leh...I no need to take my 2nd year IPPT/SOC in unit because by that time downgraded to C9L2 temp...then when I about to ORD...they give me C2L3 perm...then send me to take a 2-weeks veh/weapon storeman course...after that I go back to unit...be GE storeman for a month then clear leave and ORD...so I not too fit to do combat duties but no experience as a storeman....go back also blur... Rolling Eyes Embarassed Laughing

mhcampboy SG

need. but i think excuse something... Laughing

not sure what la. maybe outfield, maybe range, maybe anything.. Mr. Green

Xcert SG

just edited my previous post...

and the problem is since I went for storeman course...I didnt go for conversion course with the rest of my combat platoon...so from what I understand...the equipment that I used to work with has been phased out or something...

BillyBong SG

Hey...wat's the deal? I've still got 4 in-camps to go before ATEC II, and then another 3 ICTs before i can shriek: ORD lor!

Seriously, this is a wake up call for those who 'take cover' or hope your SAF particulars got burned down along with their S1 record room...

Clear your ICT asap, do the cycle and get out. That's the best solution.

I don't fancy ICT either, but it's part of training and it helps keep fit at the same time. Can't be all that bad... Cool

BillyBong SG

He could self-declare 302.... Mr. Green

Misogynist SG

Another SAF screw up.. what’s new.. Besides, cockups are always covered up there..

Until now still haven’t seen the actual reply by our redoubtable COL Benedict…

pqr SG

he will write personally meh?

not one of his officer ??

KoolKool SG

what's the difference ?

LTC XXX YYY ZZZ
for COL Benedict Tan

He might as well do it.

Mandai Leopards SG

lame

pqr SG

the words are not of the COL....

LTC write for him?? sure or not?

Should be some LTA or CPT lah

the lower rank will write then let COL vet thru...

COL wil then simply put his name and treat the letter written by his officer as his own

Ponders SG

You all believe this?

I think the MINDEF Pubilc Affairs Dept got one thick file of letters..

If they write this, use Letter 578-A to reply
if they write on that, use letetr 639-B to reply.
If they write this, use Letter 299-A to reply.
If they write on this and that, ignore them... national secuirty reasons.

Ponders SG

A COL wannabe replied liao....

ICTs may be inconvenient but defence is everyone's duty

I REFER to Mr Tan Thiam Huat's letter, 'NSman called up for first ICT at age 36' (ST, Sept 6).

While I agree with him that it is indeed a fiasco to be starting one's in-camp training (ICT) at such an age, I have my reservations about the other points raised.

To put it simply, everyone has a role to play in our country's defence, be it a manager high up the organisational hierarchy or a humble cleaner.

While ICTs may result in inconveniences,we have to recognise that defence is the basic foundation of a stable country, one where businesses flourish and our loved ones sleep in peace.

Lastly, while Mr Tan was surprised to receive his first ICT notification recently, I am even more surprised that he realised only now that he had military obligations to fulfil.
