Singapore cracks down on anime piracy

Tis strange to clamp down so hard on the downloaders when the source of most unofficial fansubs are derived from capture of free-to-air broadcasts. It's a...

CoolMyth SG

Well...I'm halfway there. Laughing

I'm getting a permanent membership from the Singles Club.

CoolMyth SG

Definitely not HWZ at the moment. Laughing

And I dun have a wide range of animes to chase from. I only watch one at a time.

The number of animes I have watched so far can be counted on two hands.

So, I'm not very hardcore yet as you can see.

Master -_- SG

It's not u Singapore..It's your founding guardians Laughing

LazerLordz SG

I remember watching Evangelion in '96.

Laughing

CoolMyth SG

The only one I watched then in 96 was Doraemon. Laughing

And I only realised that is classified as an anime only recently.

LazerLordz SG

Yeah, funny isn't it..

Maybe someone can do a thesis of "The Evolution of Animes in Japan".

I want to read that. Embarassed

You can really see the picture change, quality-wise, character designs and stories etc over these years. Laughing

Well. I actually asked odex how many actually refuse to pay up.
And they say up till 21st july. Only 4 has decided to go into court case with them.
And it takes relatively a long time for court cases to end.
So we shall now sit back relax and see what happens.

According to odex:
TV TOKYO does not want to bring this up to court for some reason.
I dunnoe what exactly.
Well but i believe the japanese companies are smart in handling issues.
And they definately have their reasons for it.

CoolMyth SG

Interesting. That's really informative information (Sorry for lack of Engrish) Laughing right there. Cool

Maybe we already can start to sit back and see how.

But then again, that's like, the only thing we can do. This is Singapore.

*copy and paste city of possibilities quote again* Laughing

"According to odex:

Confused

*thinks of writing to their corp comms dept again*... Laughing

Odex is not established in Singapore yet, as in their animes.

I'm hoping some businessman will capitalize on this case and release good quality subs of animes at a cheaper price and drive Odex up the wall.

I see that if the laws now state that we can't download fine. The market has potential with working adults, they will buy if its good quality and cheaper. Odex items are way overpriced.

30 bucks for 1 season of anime? Thats bullcrap.

Or they can do something like an itunes and charge 50cents per episode dl or something.

lional88 SG

atually their anime pricing is consider quite okay. However, it’s their subs that’s well, think yu guys know..

rx7Savanna SG

how bout M1 broadband? Laughing will they crackdown?

Gordonator SG

registered mail. so thoughtful of them. Rolling Eyes

Unidentified SG

when is the court session

Simontay78 SG

I just got to know about this yesterday in the RSS news about Starhub just got the court order to release customer information to Odex.

Shocked I thought it's the first time they did this! Wow, now then I know they did it before via Singnet too!

Hey, let's starts a new company and license these titles and start sending the registered letter of doom! It's incredible the court allow this to happen. It's going to be more such cases in future.

How about registering Japanese porn titles? Hmmm the news will be front page news to have 1 million SG receiving letter of doom mostly guys... Very Happy

Haiz, my friend kanna that letter long time ago...I will go check out with him...what's happening now. Shocked

This is one of the most stupid thing to say.

The New Paper Exclusive

Heres the most hated man in Spore anime community

He had tracked down the illegal anime downloaders and made them pay reimbursement to his company.

Two months ago, after a particularly bad experience with a downloader who had a bid attitude, he went on an online forum and made some comments, which was perceived as gloating over his companys success in taking these illegal downloaders to task.

Now Mr Stephen Sing, the company director of the anime distributor Odex, had become the most hated man in Singapores anime community, according to one blogger.

Unhappy netizens have posted his personal information and photographs on a forum thread and on various blogs.

Some even went on the forums and threatened to beat Mr Sing up and set fire to his house.

Worried for his safety, Mr Sing has made a police report
